I use stainless frets on all the necks I build unless I'm asked not to. They polish up great and they're very durable. The cost is twice that of nickel-silver, but I think it's well worth it.

Is there any difference in tone using steel vs nickle-silver? (I have a Strat that needs refretted)

I do them with both stainless and nickel-silver and I've never noticed any tone difference. Stainless is definitely the more dense of the two, but I don't think there's any more tone transfer.

Thx for the info!
