strat neck on a tele body

HI,

Had a thought the other day and am planning to put a really nice strat neck that i have on a tele body.

Anyone know is this in anyway possible?

Rule of Thumb... You can put a strat neck on a tele. But you can't put a tele neck on a strat.

When you put the strat neck on the tele, you'll notice the difference in the shape of the heal/neck pocket. However, the neck (if attached properly) should be just fine and intonate without any trouble at all. There'll be small gaps on either side of the hump in the center of the neck pocket that will be visible unless the neck has a fretboard extension, so keep that in mind for aesthetics.

I have seen Tele necks on Strats, though for the life of me, I can't find the pics now, but I do know it takes a lot of modification to the neck pocket.

The '72 Telecaster Deluxe had a strat neck on a tele body, and is still sold as a reissue these days.

I'm in the process of building the opposite: a Tele neck on a Strat body. I bought a mexican Fender body and a Mighty Mite Tele neck on Ebay and I'm sanding the body down to bare wood right now but before that I checked the neck/body joint and nothing stroke my eyes, it fits.There's a small hump at the bottom of the neck pocket but some sanding will do the trick, it would fit pretty good even without the sanding anyway.
Could be an other story with different parts...

Actually, the guitar I'm building is a tribute to Tommy Bolin who used to play on that kind of mongrel Strat especially during his Energy and James Gang days:

Your Tele neck should fit right up to the centre of the strat heel socket. If there is a gap you will not be able to get the intonation correct. The only way to do this is either curve the end of the tele neck but do NOT take ANYTHING off the centre of the heel, or have the pocket in the body squared off. But again, do NOT touch the centre point of the pocket.
