Sweaty Hands -- Summer outdoors gigs

Dear fellow guitar gods>

As I grow old I sweat more and more. Go figure, less energy but more sweat... anyway, my problem is my very sweaty hands when I play outdoors in the summer. Speed, tone, and confidence gets affected. I wash them, before, in between, have a dry towel close by, still...

I normally spray the strings with "Finger Ease" or "Fast Fret", one of those. In the heat, with my sweaty hands it appears to work backwards and my fingers get glued to the frets (or so I think).

My picking hand gives headaches too, the pick wants to go flying off my sweaty grip and I loose confidence to attack the rhythm.

Any advice will be greatly appreciatted. Thanks friends !!!

deodorant ! .. i'm serious !

you can buy antipersperant for your hands that will help. try not to use refgular deodorant as it can cause allergys in areas like hands and feet .

good luck anyway .. outdoor summer gigs are the best !

Maybe try wearing some type of wrist bands to keep more from coming down your arms....I played with a guy that had the same issue and he would try putting baby powder on your hands before the gig....seemed to help him.

Play with a hat on and minimal clothing...this will keep the sun off your head and also keep your body cool. Try to stay in the shade as much as possible and drink a lot of water. Don't drink beer or other alcohol and also stay away from sugar drinks...they will accelerate your sweating.

I used to play drums (still do but swtiched my major instrument to guitar) and I knew guys that used gorilla snot on drumsticks so they don't go flying. I think that is what it was orignally designed for. Make sure you use gorilla snot though. Regular human snot doesnt work. It just feels gross.

I SWEAR I was going to suggest this! actually, AXE is like the best stuff, no powder, and not oily! I know several people who have tried it this summer with success. And no worries about alergic reactions, it's a body spray as well. The only worry I would have is using it on your forearm to prevent that sweat you get on th guitar body.. I've been told it wont affect the finish, but I'd rather not experiment

Exercise, get good cardio so you get used to the excitment and HEAT.

I used to use baby powder...what a Bleed'n mess it was.

Always have clean hands!!! I would wash before each set. This eliminates 'gunk' on the neck.

Drink water...not alcohol....jamming in front of people should be enough to get-off....if not....seek out why.

i used to draw a blade over my pick to make grooves , that solved the moving pick issue , as regaurds sweating , i sourced a mega fan , blades where gigantic , well about 18 inches , had this thing just blowing away , job sorted ! , not good for the smoke machine tho .
