Tone problems someone who knows about tone and heads and amps Help?

ok..on my little peavey backstage practice amp I can hit ed screams and tapp and play regular harmonic all day long...they come out crystal clear and are easy to hit..now when i go to my half stack i have sooo much trouble hittin screams and tappin harmonics out..and it also seems playing regular harmonics don't ring out as easy and full...so this has to be a tone problem..its all on same guitar..now question is what is the problem..reverb? mid's? highs or lows? HELP?

Could be a couple things. Your amp may need to be re-biased and your not getting enough electrical current through or your tube amp isn't being driven enough. Try a boost of some type in front of it. Go to a local shop and plug one into the front of your amp and see if it helps.

I have an Marshall AVT 50 watt head with everything opn 10 and it works fine for me What kind of half stack are you running through? You may also try rolling off the treble to about half way and crank the mids and see what happens. The easiest way for each individual to find the exact tone they are looking for through the amp is to put everything halfway, then slowly move forward and back on the treb, bass, mid, and distortion until you find what you are hearing in your head That's why I just keep everything on 10! I don't want to sound like a smartass or anything, but have you tried different EQ settings on your big amp?

I mean if you have any decent amount of overdrive with this amp, I don't see why it wouldn't transmit the harmonics and squeals that you are playing...

A transtube is one of those modeling amps right? You might have a compressor. Turn that up. Maybe something is wrong with your amp. I had a friend who had a JMP-1 preamp and when I played it I thought it sucked really bad. I couldn't believe Marshall put something like that out. Then I heard another about a year later and it rocked. So , maybe something isn't right in it.

If there's a built-in noise gate on your amp turn it off and see if it sounds better.
Also play with presence if it applies.

Re: Tone problems someone who knows about tone and heads and amps Help?

ok..finally figured it out...I have a digitech rp50 pedal..and i use this pedal for this little practice amp..so I started thinking maybe its the pedal and the setting its on..so I hooked it up throught the half stack and sure enough screams were coming out easier and tapping harmonics were easier..but it had a terrible loud distortion sound cause instead of 40 watts it was now running through 100 watts...so now i just have to figure out a the same setting but to fit the half stack..but yeah thanks again guys for your comments and help..

Same problem with one Vetta

I get the same problem with my Line 6 Vetta II when I go from clean sounds to heavy ones, even if I have the distorted sounds at half volume. There's a physics theory I can't remember the name of that shows how the highs and lows fall off as you go up in volume. i.e., when we perfect the balance in a solo environment it's fine, when we turn it up with the band and go into a lead, we disappear. I'm working on re-eq'ing the lead sounds with the band now, and it's been working so far. If I can find the name of the theory, I'll post another reply. Good luck!
