I still have this theory regarding guitars...I have a really beat-up Squier that I bought for £50 in 1990...I just recorded a Gary Moore song with it and some new material for an album last night. It has a bite that my expensive guitar can't match tho, without a trem, it is hard to always be my 'No.1'.

My theory regards the two same guys in the respective factories...let's say Gibson and Epiphone. The guy at the US Gibson factory (is it still in Kalamazoo?) goes to work with a bad head and pissed off as he's having a run-in with his boss. He is working on a very exclusive custom shop guitar that is gonna retail for $4000 or more. He has a bad day and screws a couple of things up but the guitar still passes inspection. The other guy has a great day and puts together the best guitar that he's ever put together tho' with slightly inferior parts. His guitar ships for about $300.

My point is that, materials and expensive parts only make so much of a guitar...when you pick up a guitar, you know within a coupla minutes that it 'fit's'.

A Gibson is an investment and an Epi is a workhorse...try em both and choose based on those points.

recently I have been drooling after a couple of Pauls I was checking out in some mag. I went to GC and played them, I must say Gibsons quality has gone south in my opinion.

Binding on all 6 Pauls I played were sloppy as hell. Especially the neck binding on the top where it meets the body. 2 had some burs on the frets... ouch
all of these were in the $2500 - $4000 (US) range. Factory action and off the shelf playability was sad but this is like most guitars at GC. At least in my area you have to first spend some time adjusting the thing before you can play it....lol I think GC loves when I come in play guitars and ask for a tuner and tools.

HOWEVER the Epi's I played that same day were better than the Paul's?????
binding was neat and clean etc. WTF?

Maybe GC is buying factory seconds hell I dont know.
About a year ago I played the Paul double cut and loved the hell out of it but was too much $$$. walking thru the store a guitar caught my eye. It was an Ibanez AR250.

I bought that f**ker so quick....lol the sales guy who knew me was trying to talk me out of it. I paid less than $600
took it home, loaded in a Duncan Dist, and a year later 100 or so shows I love the hell out of that guitar. I call it the screaming, raving bitch... or SRB
I use it for all the rythm tracks my band records.
I have been dissapointed with GC enough to just buy strings and picks when I go lately.
Its kinda like the K-mart of guitars but if you look hard enough you'll find an unsuspecting jem

just my little bitchy rant
Ty
oh here is the guitar
