We recorded our first jam last night

Our keyboardist moonlights as a producer and engineer and has all this gear.
He took his digital recorder to the church where we jam and plugged into the house. We were all mic'ed properly and he let the recording run for an hour.
This is the first time we get to hear ourselves and we're all tickled pink, because we don't totally suck!

Re: We recorded our first jam last night

The keyboardist just rewired the entire building and set up plugs on the stage, so we're never far from a mic or a three-prong connection to the board.
They just installed a new Mackie board and a great PA system.
He spent an hour setting our levels and EQ up last night and safe a few glitches, the jam sounds really nice.
The thing is , it's one track of 73 minutes.
I'm converting it now to edit it so I can cut out good exerpts to post here.
This may take a while, so I may have to wait until Monday to post.

It's all improvised. Dan came up with this totally 80's line on the keys and we all followed. The result sounds like something you may have heard in Miami Vice or Beverly Hills Cop. I can't keep a straight face when I think about it! It's so 80's it makes me want to puke.
I'll catch you later!

Re: We recorded our first jam last night

Here's as promised, a song from our band's jam.
We've only been playing together maybe 10 times, so much works lies ahead still.
This first take was done as a warmup and to let our keyboardist/sound engineer setup the brand-new mixing table and PA. You can hear his voice testing the system, which is why he's not playing on the track.
Hope you enjoy.

Re: We recorded our first jam last night

I finally got a chance to hear this, it's pretty fun and educational jamming with others. Sounds good CC we don't get to hear too many live recordings around here, thanks for sharing.

Re: We recorded our first jam last night

Thanks, Eric.
We're trying to make our jam a weekly thing now, as we noticed we seem to start getting the hang of it.
I hope it works out. It sure is great being able to play with real people and not with a drum machine and MIDI tracks...

I'm really hoping that you missed the smiley face off this post, and you meant it as a joke...

Re: We recorded our first jam last night

i didn't miss the smiley face im serious, why does he keep saying check 800 times it's annoying. he should sing, i would be embarrased if my vocalist for my band did that. everyone has their own opinion, im just letting him know what i thought of it. Would you rather me lie and say cool or something?

Re: We recorded our first jam last night

It's one thing to be honest and it's another to show no tact or diplomacy. Think about this EddieMan, how does it sound when you call the guy a retard? You can't think of any other ways to be honest to people that have done nothing to you than that?

No, I don't expect you to lie at all but I do expect you to start choosing what you say a little better because there are times that you are flat out rude for no reason.

I suggest that you read this above post once again EddieMan. It explained to me why the mp3 was in the format that it was.

Points to note:
<ul type="square">[*]It wasn't actually the vocalist. It was the keyboardist.[*]Whilst they were playing, the keyboardist was testing the system, which is why he keeps talking all the way through it
Some points I'd like to make :
<ul type="square">[*]Calling someone a retard just like that is tactless[*]If you've ever attended any sort of sound check, you'd realise that this is the way things are done. You hear so many "1-2's" that it drives you mad, at least this guy says different things all the time[*]Lastly, I can't believe that I'm having to point all of this out, I thought it was plainly obvious what CC's situation was.[*]I suggest you read through all of the posts in future
Just a very tactless thing to say. Fortunately, I don't think CC is going to take to much offence to this, and I hope this doesn't discourage him from posting clips like this in the future.
