What specific scale does ANGUS young use?

Is it the A minor pentatonic scale? I am gonna learn to play the scale(s) that he uses cold, I just need to know which one he uses. This will be the first scale I have learned. I really need ot venture further than just learning these ACDC covers and learn the scale behind it all.

thanks!

Blues scale primarily...that's the minor pentatonic with extra cheese. Google it and you'll see it.

ok kool, I just figured I'd ask here since I just finished reformating this hard drive just a while ago and waiting for all the windows updates/security patches to finish before I surf too hard on the net.

I'll do a search on "what scale angus young uses" or something of that nature when all these updates finish

thanks...

Just type blues scale for guitar and you'll see...1 extra note on the minor pentatonic.

lol, what does that mean exactly...cheese as in cheesy or just cheese and no extra cheese? it wasn't a very technical description of the scale he uses and left a lot of room for interpretation- hehe

Well the blues scale as I see it most of the time is
I bIII IV bV V bVII

so in A thats
A C D Eb E G

the bV is what is called the blues note cause it has a bluesy feel to it.
Of course i'm pretty sure angus would add some cheese maybe something like adding the III back in.

See...you should have stuck with the cheese!

As thectrain said, it's the Eb that gives the blues...that's the blue note...or the cheddar in this instance.

Basic minor pentatonic

Basic blues

It's that little blue note...

I appreciate your help! After I got this computer back up and running earlier tonight I searched and there is a lot of info on this...my new years resolution is to devote this year to serious practice, if I can't get somewhere in a year something is definitley wrong. 13 days into this year and I can see the progress already with all the finger exercises I have been doing (my fingers are so raw it's unreal)

anyway...I found this...

I think that is the scale I need to devote some serious time getting it down cold and ways to play it all the way up the neck. I'll be sure and throw some of that extra cheese on it that you showed and see how that tastes.

Well in case you didn't stumble across it when you were searching i will try to explain my explaination.

The way I learned scales(as in theory scales not only where they were on the guitar neck) is in terms of the major scale.

Since the major scale has 7 notes(well 8 but the 8th is the same note an octave above the first note) there are given numbers 1-7. They are most often referred to in roman numerals for historical reasons that I really dont know.

Now the C Scale is the easiest to illustrate because all the notes are natural(no sharps or flats). So the C major scale is:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7
I II III IV V VI VII
C D E F G A B

The Pattern for making that scale is
WWHWWWH. Where W is a whole step(2 frets) and H is a half step(1 fret). So when I said the blues pentatonic was:
I bIII IV bV V bVII the numbers mean the notes from the major scale and then bIII means you flat that note. So the C Blues scale is
C Eb F Gb G Bb.

Hope that helps. I'm almost as bad at explaining theory as I am at playing.

To be honest I don't even care at this point to learn theory. I just don't- is that bad? I just want to know what scale(s) is a good one to start off with and work on developing some decent playing speed and accuracy/technique so I can play it so fluidly. I listen to ACDC so much it borders on obsession, my family and friends know this, it has been this way since I first heard them in 1980. Since ACDC inspires me so much to play guitar. I figured learning the scale (s) he uses is a good one to start with.

I will research everything everyone has mentioned or will mention in this thread, I do appreciate the help!

Maybe I am different/weird on this, I used to play Violin(not well) in 5th grade (mom and dad made me and both my brothers and sister played the flute, lol) and the teacher would make me learn what the notes were as I was playing and all that good stuff. What wound up happening is instead of hearing the music I would hear what letter of the note is in my head with each note I would play. It took away from enjoying the music as I played it if you ask me.

but thats basically what learning theory is about right?
