GT-6 and GT-8 are both good units. The Pod's get good reviews and many use them here. Why not check out the reviews section here.

as far as effects pedals...I got the Boss ME50 with power supply on ebay for 225.00 I have a feeling I should have held out for the GT-6
The ME50 is ok, I got it because I am completely new to the whole effects thing. My impressions of it are like a lot of the reviews, The distortions leave a lot to be desired, the wah is not that great, not that I know anything about wahs but it has to be better than this thing. The modulation effects and delays are decent enough and comes with a good tuner. I havent really dived into it yet thats what I think of it so far.
I'd go for the GT-6 if I had it to do all over again, no lie!
