Whatever happened to....

I'm sure we all began subscribing to Guitar World, Guitar for the practicing musician , etc. back in the mid to late 80's. I didn't keep my old issues but I seem to remember a bunch of spare-to-fair shredders who populated the covers - usually sporting some preposterous 18 fret finger spread. Anyway, I'm curious as to what happened to some of them. So, feel free to comb the "where are they now?" files and post here.

My favorite (not for his playing, but for his "name") was Guy Mann-Dude . Does anyone else remember him? Does anyone know what happened to him?

LOL! That name was definitely a classic.

I remember seeing all kinds of guys that were in ads in guitar mags during the 80's that would fall into this category. I guess a lot of them become irrelevant as the cruel music industry changes and "guitar heroes" are less appealing to record execs.

A good example : I was reading over at VHForums where somebody mentioned they talked to James Lomenzo from DLR's band and was with White Lion back in the 80's. He mentioned that Vito Bratta had given up guitar and was selling real estate in New England. it's totally a shame, but I guess when you are restricted to a particular genre of music by your talent, that kind of thing happens to players often.

Yeah Guy Mann Dude, played rhythm on Michael Angelo's starlicks video and than he pissed Angelo off! I remember watching his cover of the Stones 'Paint It Black' on MTV Headbangers Ball.

I heard that Vito Bratta was actually pretty smart with the money that he had made from White Lion and was leading a pretty secure lifestyle unlike the singer Mike Tramp.

Whatever....long live the eighties!

Re: Whatever happened to....

I've got about 10 yrs. worth of Guitar for the Practicing musician in my basement.I cracked one open and saw a monthly article that Alex Skolnick from Testament had about minor triads. That got me thinking. Where is he now? So I checked and he is actually a jazz guitarist.

Unfortunately I'm not. Obviously, that's not his real name but he was a Guitar for the Practicing Musician coverboy at one time in the late 1980's.

That's too bad about Vito, I loved the way that he played. I could of done without the singer though.
