Who played this riff

About 24 years ago I swithched the radio on ( the John Peel Show - every guitarist in the UK will have listened to this show ) and a song was playing - with the attached MP3 being the main riff. I learned this riff and then was called to dinner by my mother before the song had even finished.

I have always wondered what the song was and who played it. Hopefully the last 24 years haven't distorted the riff too much and someone out there will recognise it.

Any lyrics? I recently had some song stuck in my head from around 1974 when my folks were driving a Pontiac stationwagon with wood paneling (simulated perhaps?). I remembered a line or two, then Googled it. I am embarassed to name the song, but I probably play it in my car at least once a week.

ummm ..... haha man i was hoping i might be able to answer that but then i listened and i dont have a damn clue what the hell that riff is from :P but im probably too young to know ... i dunno man . sorry

Well thanks for your help guys - I was sure someone would recognise it - maybe I just remembered it wrong.

I'm going to try running it through that mobile phone service that supposedly will recognise any tune - if I get a result I'll let you know.
