I agree that the beatles is better than the stones.. Although the beatles have shorter career than the stones, the beatles songs are more powerful than any of the stones songs.. The beatles have recorded more timeless songs than the stones

Reminds me of when I was in high school years ago...we'd have big, dumb arguments about what band was better than another. Both had fine moments, but I lean strongly in favor of the Beatles, in large part due to the songwriting, and the consistency of the band. They had great talent. Then again, I laugh thinking of the other kids back then who hated the Ramones (why?) just because they didn't have complex chording. This is not a matter of judgment, it's a matter of taste.

I am new here but I will still add my 2 cents. Is one better band better than the other is a moot point in IMHO. To each his own. For myself I prefer the Beatles. They have been the biggest influence on my playing though friends say they just don't hear it. Regardless they have been in my mind. I like a lot of Stones songs but where as I own almost the entire Beatle catalog, I have just a just few Stones CDs. I will say this about the Stones. The have certainly made their mark on music and have been very influential. My main problem with them is that although I have never seen them play live, I have seen them on TV and such (remember them playing at the Super Bowl?) and I didn't think they sounded so good. But hey, if the Stones spins your wheels, more power to you.

Geez we cannot compare those two monsters... completely different and both essential to rock music... To myself, Beatles, Stones and The Who are the truly essential heroes to rock. Add perhaps Dylan, Doors, Hendrix and Elvis and you just have most of the traces that will make sixties and post-sixties music. Each one plays an important part and each one has/had flaws and unique capabilities.

Well, from a purely technical standpoint:
Number ones (Singles, albums, EP's)
The Beatles : 27 #1 hits / 15 #1 albums
The Stones : 8 #1 hits / 8 #1 albums
Simple mathematics, my friends...

'most commercially successful' does not equal 'best'
it's all subjective. i'll the stones any day but concede the beatles probably had a more lasting impact.

The influence of the beatles in popular music cannot be underestimated, but... the stones have always grooved better to me, pure rock and roll and their shows had just that bit more energy. They can't have been that bad, or they wouldnt still be selling out tours for their shows.

Let's hear it for the Who!
ON TOPIC: I listen to the Beatles when I want to enjoy a song. I listen to the stones when I want to get up and dance. Both bands have their place in my heart, although the Beatles get old after a while.

Letīs compare this:
Keith Richards-George Harrison -- No comment
Brian Jones / Ron Wood / Mick Taylor-John Lennon -- John Lennon
Bill Wyman (Darryl Jones)- Paul McCartney -- Paul McCartney
Charlie Watts-Ringo Starr -- No comment
And now I have to Mick Jagger to add...Where?
OK, in the sixties Beatles were more sucessful than the Stones, between 1963 and 1967. But since 1968... the Stones made Beggars Banquet (lp) and Jumping Jack Flash (single); in 1969 they made Let it Bleed (lp) and Honky tonk women (single), two albums and two songs much better than Revolver, Let it be... And in the seventies the Stones made Sticky Fingers (Brown Sugar), Exile on main street (tumbling dice), Angie, Itīs only rockīnīroll... These years called the Stones the Best Band of Rock In The World.
And if you want, we can talk about their live shows.

Cool. Let's look at another album comparison....
1977;s Exile on Main St. vs The Beatles....oh wait...the Beatles never got that far because they're a bunch of cry babies.

You Missed All The Great Tours Of The Late 60s & Early 70s.The 1978 Tour Was The Worst In Their Career...I Agree..Mick Was Terrible...They Played Mostly SOME GIRLS TUNES & A Few Old Favorites...They Are Much Better Now ..Since 1989....
