Actually, right now i'm in retox:beerbang:
1. Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin: i love this solo, its just so mesmerising to me, its beautiful yet eerie at the same time
2.Sweet Child O Mine- Guns N Roses: solo has so much soul and emotion in it
3.Atomic Punk- Van Halen
4.Bat Country-Avenged Sevenfold: awesome kickass guitar harmony solo
5. Master of Puppets- Metallica
6.Trapped Under Ice- Metallica
7.Cemetary Gates- Pantera: sweet solo, soo emotional yet fast
8. Aces High- Iron Maiden
9.Enter Sandman- Metallica
10. Eruption-Van Halen
Eddie Van Halen - "Eruption" sounds great now, but go back to '78 and listen to it then. Tottally different solo back in the day.
(Diamond) Darrell Abbot - "We'll Meet Again" tottally rips on this one. Its from the Pantera power metal release in 1988. He goes on forever and just kicks the door down!
Randy Rhoads - "Trouble" in '78 when Randy was with Quiet Riot the solo on the song "Trouble" off the Quiet Riot II album was bringing tears to my eyes. He doesnt rip the cover off the record or go on forever, but just solidly solos.
Yngwie Malmsteen - "Hot On Your Heels" off the Steeler debut, Malmsteen goes on for 3+ minuets. Now if you know Yngwie you already know what its sounds like, but its some good stuff if your a fan.
Again, I would say the solo in "Something" by George Harrison is my all time favorite, for it's timeless beauty, poignant simplicity and un-embellished sweet tone. Eruption as recorded on the first VH record is a masterpiece. The solo at the end of Five-G by Allan Holdsworth is the moste original, lovely and chanlenging guitar solo I ever heard.
I won't say they are the best-but most inspirational always to me that made me or make me wanna play is:
1) over the mountain-randy rhoades
2) far beyond the sun-Yngwie
3) back in black-ac/dc
4) crosstown traffic-Jimi
5) Black Sabbath-basically the whole paranoid record
6) Eruption
7) erotomania-D-Theatre
8) Mr. Scary-George Lynch
9) Don't Stop Believin-journey
10) scuttle Buttin-Stevie Ray Vaughn

If you haven't heard of Criss Oliva, look again.
Me, I like guitar. I like loud squeals and pinch harmonics that only dogs can hear, tapping that would redefine what Fred Astaire popularized, sweeping that would make a janitor jealous, and most importantly great melodic HOOKS (like the greatest hook writers of all time Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson). Singing is not a requirement.
(In no order)
- Round and Round - Ratt - Not the best work from DeMartini or Crosby but its such a perfect solo for that song, and i love it.
- Stairway To heaven - Led Zeppelin - Probably the most melidic solo of all time, imo.
- Ice Cream Man - Van Halen - I just love this piece, it just kicks your a@#!
- Child In Time - Deep Purple - the solo that got me into guitar!
- Crazy train - Ozzy Osbourne - always has a special place in my heart being the first solo i could play, but just an amazing solo as well.
- Dont Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult - not the most amazing solo but when you hear it the first time or any other, it just knocks you back in your seat.
- Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden - My favorite maiden solo, ever!
- Voodoo Child - Jimi Hendrix - Just amazing, the first real great song with Wah, imo.
- Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd - Being a Floyd maniac this has to be in here, and who can argue?
- Sea of Lies - Symphony X - Just.... WOW
