One of my favorites has always been Ritchie Blackmore's solo on Highway Star, from Made In Japan...

Eddie Van Halen - "Eruption" sounds great now, but go back to '78 and listen to it then. Tottally different solo back in the day.

(Diamond) Darrell Abbot - "We'll Meet Again" tottally rips on this one. Its from the Pantera power metal release in 1988. He goes on forever and just kicks the door down!

Randy Rhoads - "Trouble" in '78 when Randy was with Quiet Riot the solo on the song "Trouble" off the Quiet Riot II album was bringing tears to my eyes. He doesnt rip the cover off the record or go on forever, but just solidly solos.

Yngwie Malmsteen - "Hot On Your Heels" off the Steeler debut, Malmsteen goes on for 3+ minuets. Now if you know Yngwie you already know what its sounds like, but its some good stuff if your a fan.

Top 4...post the rest later!

KEEP ROCKING!

Again, I would say the solo in "Something" by George Harrison is my all time favorite, for it's timeless beauty, poignant simplicity and un-embellished sweet tone. Eruption as recorded on the first VH record is a masterpiece. The solo at the end of Five-G by Allan Holdsworth is the moste original, lovely and chanlenging guitar solo I ever heard.

Well I'll just list some of my favorites. Numbering for sake of numbering, no order..

1. Tender Surrender - Steve Vai. Just how he goes OFF when it starts off so mellow and quiet is amazing to me.

2. Tornado of Souls - Megadeth (Marty Friedman). This is such an underrated solo. Marty just slays everything in this solo.

3. No More Tears - Ozzy (Zakk Wylde). My favorite solo by Zakk, the ending is epic.

4. Texas Flood - SRV. Just so much passion in this solo, it's great.

5. Crossroads - Cream (Eric Clapton). Such a great solo. Clapton is so melodic.

6. November Rain - GnR (Slash). So much feel in this solo. It compliments the song perfectly.

7. Europa - Carlos Santana. Probably my favorite ballad by him, just love that solo.

That's it for now, there are obviously tons more I like though..

If you haven't heard of Criss Oliva, look again.

Me, I like guitar. I like loud squeals and pinch harmonics that only dogs can hear, tapping that would redefine what Fred Astaire popularized, sweeping that would make a janitor jealous, and most importantly great melodic HOOKS (like the greatest hook writers of all time Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson). Singing is not a requirement.
