Zakk Wylde Epiphone

I went to Sam Ash yesterday in the Valley and tried a Zakk Wylde Epi. I retails for about 900 and is loaded with the sasquash's favorite pickups.
I have to say it sounds huge and it felt really nice.
It's not as heavy as a Gibson and pretty much felt almost as comfortable as my Wolf Standard.
I really dig the bullseye design and the unfinished neck.
You wouldn't have to puch me very far to make me buy it.
I've seen them on eBay for less.
Maybe I should start putting money aside for Xmas...

Has anyone tried it?

Re: Zakk Wylde Epiphone

Yeah...big fan of Zakk and they had one in my local shop so... felt nice, sounded nice with the EMG's BUT the binding on the back of the neck was pi-s poor and it's still a copy! Bit much...I have a friend in London called Richie-known to everyone as Zakk cos he looks, plays and sounds like him...he's bloody awesome! Anyway he has a white Les Paul Custom with EMG's on it and plays it thru a Line6 rack preamp thru a Marshall 100w for the power into a 4 x 12... sweet as a nut! Buy the Gibbo as it's the real deal.

Re: Zakk Wylde Epiphone

I can't possibly justify spending so much money when I already have a kickass guitar with my Wofgang. I would have to settle for the Epi. Gibsons are horrendously expensive, and the company is laughing all the way to the bank because they have one of the most popular models aver made. I just won't fall for that... I already fell for Peavey's trick.. Ah ah ah!

My son has one and it is great!! Stays in tune and sounds huge. I recommend it if you can't get the real deal.

Re: Zakk Wylde Epiphone

I had one and I loved it! The Epi neck is satin finished though, not unfinished, and the pups are the EMG Hz series which are passive. All in all it was a lot of fun, and I noticed a considerable increase in my speed on the neck. I even debated sanding my other LP neck, but decided against it in the event I decide to sell it one day.

I took it back though becuase the gold was rubbing off, the cream color was way too yellow, and I already had an LP. In hindsight, I might pick one up again somewhere down the road if I have a money burning in my pocket And it is easy to mod the pups for the EMG 81 and 85, so if you do get it, it is still a svery solid guitar. I gigged with mine a couple of times before taking it back without any concerns. As for the cost, they go for $799 regardless of the bullshit "retail", and you can find factory seconds on Ebay for around $500 if you are patient

Re: Zakk Wylde Epiphone

I tried one, and seriously considered buying it. The only thing that stopped me is that I would have to spend about 250 bucks to get the real Zakk pickup set to put in it. I think what you have to consider is that no matter where it is made, it is a Les Paul with a mahogany body and a maple neck. That combination is not something you are going to find anywhere else for that price. The only thing you need is the active EMG pickups, and you are going to have a guitar as close to the Uber expensive Gibson version as you can get. The Epi's are great playing guitars, and the Zakk signature model gives you the maple neck. I don't think you can go wrong.
