Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien

I think everyone likes a good cup o' joe, right??

well, for all of you joe lovers out there...here's a whole pot full. Mostly Joe's technique with a little of my own to mix things up. performed to the best of my ability without a tremolo...anywho, let me know how you like it!

I like this rendition. It swings along nicely and you show your own style on this version but still stick to the original theme.

Be careful not to race through sections. It is real hard when recording as I do it without being aware of it. It is easy to jump ahead of the beat.

I would think your rendition would be fun to do live. Good one to play to friends or family.

Tell us what guitars, effex and recording device you used for this.

Keep Rockin

yo! macman! thanks for the listen.

i downloaded this backing track from the glory that is guitarplanet.free.fr, tons of free satch backers

as for guitar i used my trusty schecter blackjack and direct recorded via usb through my pod xt live. I used a fan-made setting modeled after surfing with the alien and tweaked it a little to give it more balls for post-recording mixing ease. from there i just threw everything into sony acid and mixed it up into what you hear today.

isn't the internet lovely?

One JS fan here... nice cover Mister T....although this tune sounds pretty easy to begin with, it turns into what all JS and Vai tunes turn into and thats a freaking technical nightmare (or at least that happens to me LOL). You handled it pretty well and the tapped with side of pick stuff was cool too. Nice tune to get under your belt....get some more posted.

sweetastic! thanks for the listen axe2grind. the portion you mentioned, the tapping, i've actually done it a thousand times better (more notes tapped, greater range of sound...etc) in more recent attempts but all of those were just jams without the recorder on haha. thanks for the listen man. JS and Vai are top notch musicians...thats for sure. and that makes for some fun learning and playing!

(i use the side of the pick mainly because i suck at using my picking hand's fingers for tapping...gotta work on that!)

That always happens to me too, have a little jam and practice over some tunes and pull off some nice playing and realise I did'nt press 'record'. still all in all was enjoyable to listen too and that's the main thing, FUN & ENJOYMENT.
