Need your opinion on this tone

Hey Guys,

Let me preface this by saving you the trouble of pointing out that my timing is off and the playing is sloppy on this clip. No excuses – it is! [img]images/smilies/wutblau.gif[/img]

I went back to basics on this clip and used my 5150 combo and rigged a Shure mic to my computer. You’ll hear the Atomic Punks backing tracks that I downloaded from Vhfans in the background.

I’d like to get your opinions on the overall tone. How’s it sound to you (close, right on, way off the mark)? Does it need more crunch, more base, less treble?? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

i can't pinpoint anything specific... maybe the delay or reverb (if any ) is a bit too much... guitar is too soft in the mix... tone actually is not bad at all!!! [img]images/smilies/icon_thumb.gif[/img] [img]images/smilies/icon_jam.gif[/img] [img]images/smilies/rock.gif[/img]

Too much reverb....Very good tone. Sounds like you might has recorded with effects coming through the cab. I could really tell when you kicked into the verse that is was a good tone. Try to record as dry as possible and add a touch of reverb later if you can. Great job on the playing.

Yeah, your right about the verb, I'll try recording dry and adding the verb with Cakewalk. Thanks for the great advice. By the way, thanks for the thumbs up on the playing - coming from you J-Mart, that's a big compliment!

Sounds good to me...

Man, I haven't got a clue with tones. I have a Marshall Valcestate, a Hot Cake and an MXR Phaser, and I still can't get a decent tone out of it...

But then again, I just dunno what knob to turn to alter a sound the way I want to...

I agree. The tone and playing are great!! Just too much effect and it needs to be louder in the mix.

I have a hard time hearing all of it as it's too low in the mix and all the way to the left.
Sounds good from what I can capture but I'd like to hear a version where it's more in your face. [img]images/smilies/icon_jam.gif[/img]

I'll have to agree the guitar is way to soft, from what I can hear it sounds very good better than I could do.
