Here's my copy of Powderfinger, by
Neil Young and
Crazy Horse.
If you're interested, here's some recording notes:
1. I scoured the 'net for a MIDI version of this song I could use for a backing track (so I didn't have to start from scratch), and I found a couple of good ones, but none that had that "Live Rust" sorta ... "feeling" so I wound up sequencing it all myself. I think it tured out pretty good. I'm especially pleased with the drums, which I tried to keep relatively minimal.
2. It's hard to do a solo that sounds like Neil Young and not do a Neil Young solo note for note. He plays so expressively, I think he's covered all the possiblities already. I tried to steer clear of his leads, but was only partially successful.
3. While my vox pretty much suck anyway, it was reeeeaaaaaly hard to get that southwestern "twang", with the enunciated "r's" and so on, especially since I'm from the upper midwest. I think the vox turned out OK, though, but not great. BG vox are better than the lead at the "twang thang."
4. Amplitude ROCKS!
5. This song was hard.
6. I hope you like it OK.
