Pretenders: Phone Call Song Strat78
This is my favorite Pretenders song,"The Phone Call" which has a time signature that is very odd yet intuitive. There are NO guitar solos, I love it! The tone I was going for reminds me of the Sex Pistols. "The same one you lost on the run, gonna show you that it ain't no fun."

The Pretenders??? Having never heard this song before, I would not have guessed it was originally by them. It had a rocking vibe to it though with a bit of a whacky time signature (7/8?), ala Rush. I had troubles making out the vocals though, but I liked the guitar/bass tone.
It is interesting to hear you do a non-VH tune, as that is the only stuff I have heard from you until this (I think ) . And this tune is kind of the antithesis of Eddie's playing style (was there even a lead break in this?), so I applaud you for the diversity.

cool tune...not familiar though....tricky timing curves in the beginning (and the whole tune) were tackled with perfection....very nice tone.....but no surprise and was expected when i saw the strat78 logo...WTG

Really appreciate the feedback! I should not have spent the time on this tune but for some reason I needed to. I'm getting married in next week and I am completely overwhelmed with everything that needs to be done in preparation. This tune is totally crazy, and it has been grate therapy for me.

Please accept my congratulations on your impending marriage. I really am pleased ands This is a quality cover of a track that I have only heard once or twice. It sounds like a mix of 6/8 and 7/8 (at least at the beginning.) The playing is absolutely beautiful and tones are sweet.
I heard this song on Radio One (John Peel) when it came out. I remember thinking this song was a wierd one and possibly sounded more like Blondie circa the plastic lp at the time. A wierd choice mate, but in keeping with some of your more eclectic performances. If anything you have made this sound tighter than the original. Chrissie Hynde has always been a big influence on me. I love the way a chord will throw the whole song - I try to use that a lot in my stuff.
Anyway I am on my third listen now and this is class. Enjoy your wedding day and thank you for posting this

Thanks so much guys! Thought a good heavy driving punkish tune would lend a little twist to the board of late. I like these type of tunes more than any amount of solo infested stuff, cause you can sling your guitar way down to your knees and get the aggressions out.

Yes, exactly!!! Thanks 3fingers!!! Yeah, its a pretty obscure tune but it stands out for me because a buddy of mine once waited on a table where Chrisy Hynde was sitting and he mentioned how much he loved the "Phone Call Song" to her and she was thrilled that someone would pick that song to complement her on.

Thanks Sling and Bulldog!
I know there are some amazing soloists out there but in the spirit of this tune I invite all of you to post some good rockin' tunes that concentrate on a solid groove. No soloing just put it in the slot in a big way!
