Repost: FM
Cover of Steely Dan's FM
This was posted about 4-5 months ago. I created the backing track and sang. Strat78 provided the incredible guitarwork that really makes the whole track. I wanted to redo the drums as the symbols were originally a bit hot but I tried to locate all the original tracks and couldn't find them. I am usually pretty good at saving all my stuff. Oh well. What I did do to "soften" the brass cymbals was to cut the frequencies at 12.5k and 15k by -4.2 while boosting 225 by +3. I did a compare/contrast and I think it's about as good as can be made without the separate track to manipulate. I really love the sax soundfont I found and implimented in this song. It sounds extremely realistic. The drums are from Nautral Sounds and even hot sound realistic too.
Anyway, hope you enjoy and give it up for Strat78. There was no rush on this being completed and he took his time and really delivered the goods.

I gotta agree with SGSTD here. This is a smooth and easy listen and sounds very close to a live recording from the band. Top notch production. I absolutely love Steely Dan, so I'm gonna hang on to this recording. Thanks guys!

Thanks a lot, guys.
Do the cymbals seem a little less harsh in this take to you? Just curious. If I cut frequencies any more it will start to detract from the source.

WOW Fellas !!! Pretty friggin' smoooooth!!!! Steely Dan no less!!!! Completely impressed with that alone!!! LOL!!! Real nice job on the BT sting, and the vox!!! who knew!!! I did'nt!! Fantastic!! and Strat, all the goods!!!, the subtle, then the CRANKIN'!!! Wonderful job!!! The cymbals are just a tad hissy, but not enough to detract from what could be confused with a great board boot IMO!!! good job guys!!!

Loved it the first time and love it even more now. the cymbals do sound a little less in your face than the last mix. I would have brought up the sax just a little bit - it seems a little quieter now to my ears. Great vocal performances and a genuine top job all round!

Thanks, Porty.
As I mentioned though, I tried looking for all the individual tracks but couldn't find them. If Strat78 still has has his part, I could take the time in the future to redo all parts again. Gives me something to do over the winter
