SRV TONE with PODxt? HAVE A LISTEN!
Can any blues-hounds give me some pointers on this tone? I'm determined to do ' Riviera Paradise' and this is the tone I'm closest with? Any comments or advice on what I need to get it closer?
Thanks,
wahwah.

This second one is a work in progress cos I don't know jazz chords to save my life so this is a bit 'sticky'. Again, it's a bit different from the first but which of the two sounds closest?

Thanks guys. I gotta be honest-I think that a strat will produce a real strat tone thru most things that are kept clean-ish. I don't know where the 'warmth' comes from but I'm desperately looking for the tone that was with the backing track as I don't feel the other one has the warmth. I like the way you can just do a slow slide down the neck and you get a smokey feel to it. I'm gonna take my time with this one and then look for a ' Texas Flood' tone with a bit more thunder!

I think the first one sounds better to my ears .. also i think because your not picking as hard as in the ssecond one , one thing i've noticed about that tune is some parts sound really light just because he's not picking nearly as hard as he usually does ..
of course there are parts also where he builds up and hits so pretty hard notes , but i think you captured the vibe in that first one . but both are very good ! .. those chords at the beginning are a bit of a bitch aren't they ! sound easy but tough to really nail the shapes and get the vibe of srv and the melody ...

It's hard to say wich sounds more like SRV. Both tones sounds great, but I dont think I've heard SRV use tremolo that much.
I think the key to the SRV tone, besides the strat, is to have extremely thick strings.
By the way... I heard this concert with SRV "live in tokyo" where he brings out a special strat, that's like a semi acoustic, like a box, not rounded edges.
Hard to find the words to explain properly in english
Its some special model he brings out when he plays cold shot then uses it for a couple of tunes, and the sound he gets with that guitar is just amazing.
I havent heard anything like it. I was in awe when I first heard it. And I've listened to a lot of SRV before.
I think he uses a bit of chorus on the concert. But other than that its just the strat sound with super thick strings.

I like them both very much Chris. I would say the first tone is closer imo. Nice playing as well mate.

sounds killer bro...i just went thru a similar experience in my Texas Flood cover...Ive ben experimenting with a TS9 tubescreamer. I use a boss GT6 set on a fender twin setting with a touch of gain, then i top it off with the ts9...its not exact but u can hear the results in the cover section if u want.Ive found aslo that even with the ts9 on,naturally u can control the gain from the volume knob on ur strat, and if the ts9 hasnt got heaps of gain set, (mines set on about 1/4 gain) then some really nice clean tones can be generated, with just a idi bidi bit of dirt....its all a matter of what sounds right to you,but ur doing fine

I think they both sound great wahwah! Each one brings it's own nuance and flavor to the table! I think the first is more reminiscent to me of SRV, but the second has a great jazz feel. I enjoyed listening to both! Great guitar work and awesome tone! Thanks for sharing wahwah!

I think that "special strat" was a custom guitar that Billy Gibbons had made for Stevie. I can't for the life of me think of the luthier right now tho.

Thanks for replying...this all helps. The reason for putting the tremelo on Naifuzan was that I don't have a trem on this guitar (well, I do but I've had the block put down as it goes out of tune just looking at it) so I can't give it a little bit of 'flutter' on some of the parts. I know he used a Lesley cab so I reckon there must be a form of tremelo on his playing. This was prolly over-the-top to compensate for that.
Sting, I'll go to customtone and have a look but whenever I download anything from the Line6 tone locker, it never sounds anything like the artist it's meant to be covering...x'cept for rols 1984 EVH sample!
khufu...I found that the best control was the volume pot! If I get the tone just starting to distort and then back it off a little it's close!
Thanks guys...all your points onboard for me to tweak.
