The MP3 Contest entry that never was...... AKA Baker Street!

This is a sort of "Before and After" post, so please download and listen to THIS "BEFORE" FILE while reading the post below:

A few months ago, as you may recall, there was an MP3 contest where the entrants were to take an old mellow tune and then rock it up and modernize it. At the time, I had started working on a song but was not able to post up to G101 on time to enter the contest. The version I had done at that point was basicly just a MIDI file of the song with my guitar work on top of it.

The song I decided to do was Baker Street by Gerry rafferty. If you clicked the link above as I suggested, then at this point you are listening to the original version.

After you have had a chance to listen to a bit of the original song, download and listen to THIS "AFTER" FILE. CRANK IT UP!!!

Now you are listening to the completed version of the song. The MIDI is completely gone and has been replaced by bass, drums and guitars. I had some help doing this song, and everyone has done an absolutely brilliant job of playing on this tune!

Here are the people that were involved in this production:

Rjmjajrj (G101) --------------------> Vocals, backing vocals.
Chris Wilson (A buddy of mine) -----> Bass
NickT (artistcollaboration.com) ----> Drum Loops (But they SOUND live!)
Rj (G101) --------------------------> Lead guitars, Rhythm Guitars, Finger Cymbals, Mixing, Mastering

Here's the best part of the story -
This song is going to be included on a compilation CD that is going to be given to Mr. Rafferty himself for Christmas this year! What a rush!!!

So - thats it folks - I hope you have enjoyed listening to this tune as much as we have enjoyed playing it for you!

Lata!

I've followed this one from the start. So it's great to hear the finished piece!
I STILL miss the cheesy sax tho

Great job nonetheless. It's really cool that you managed to put this one together. I bet Gerry's gonna love it

Nice recording and very cool arrangement and execution! Ah, now I hear the finger cymbals. Loved the intro and again at 3:51.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I am just wondering tho - do you think the reverse feedback at the beginning is overkill? I thought it would be neat and put it in there, but now I listen and I'm not sure....

Thanks! I'm a sucker for harmonized guitars too - ever since I was introduced to Iron Maiden oh so many years ago.

I'm glad you enjoyed the tune!
