WAHWAH/ROY BRATBAKKEN - 'HIGHWAY STAR' Deep Purple
I've had this one on the back boiler for over a year! Never really a clue of Blackmore's solo's except for that strat so I just tried to capture his spirit and (like Angus) his very wide vibrato.
Didn't do anymore with it until Roy asked if I had anything he could put vocals on...Dokken? Gary Moore? It went quiet!...How about this impossible Deep Purple track? Oh Yeah! Anyway, the boy Roy did good again! As with all mixes that happen between Norway and the UK, there's a 15% 'muddy' tax payable to Her Majesty's Government...(that means great backing track but low sample rate and cuts out at the very end...note the clever use of a SCREAM to hide this! )
Anyway, Mr Bratbakken did GOOOOOOOOD!

ah man this is just awesome !
First off the vocals , roy you sound like this track was made for you ! .. you got the anger and the balls to pull this off and you did an awesome job !
i don't know much deep purple myself it's been something i've been meaning to launch myself into .. but i do know this track and always rock and head bang to it ! thanks mostly to the "oh right hold tight .. i'm a hiiway star" etc awesome line ,
your tone wahwah in this is sensational your chugging during the keyboard solo just captured the "driving" theme/'vibe of this perfectly .. very hard to do that effectively in my opinion...
god only knows how you do those huge squeals at the beginning too ! ..
guitar solo as well just flawless .. i absolutely love it keep em coming ! i need something to keep me out of jazz and cranking the distortion ! hehe

Thanks Stig...the squeals are done with my little finger of my right hand. A bit like pinch harmonics but I get better, more reliable results. When you strike a note, just touch the string with your pinky the same way you would hit a harmonice...very slight touch-too much, it won't work.
Thanks for listening.

First off, this is one of my favorite songs of all time.
The power it conveys is amazing.
Roy, you nailed it again. The grain in your voice is amazing, my friend. You were born with a built-in tube distortion!
Wah, the tone is fantastic. I'll be playing this tune all day it seems.
Bravo, mates!
