May as well stick the full demo up and see what VH people think! This was a pig to record and ended up being done in one take...nightmare! The rest of the band kept reminding me that Eddie probably did it in one take and I kept reminding them that I'M NOT EDDIE!!!!! Your comments would be appreciated. Cheers. Chris Watson. Hey dude,

There's something wrong with the naming of your mp3 file. It's go an additional .mp3 ending, and I think the /' in the name is messing it up. I'll wait for Wolf or Eric to sort it out so that everyone can listen to it...

The only gripe I'd have is that on the original it sounds like there are more notes in the intro. e.g. I hear it as :

Danga-danga-danga-danga-danga-danga-dang-gaaaaar, whereas you seem to play it as :

Danga-da-dang-da-da-dang-da-dan-dang-gaaarrrr.

However, I don't know what effect you're supposed to use to produce this sound, and I also need to re-listen to the original to make sure I've got it right...

But apart from that, a mighty fine tune !

It's a phaser mate. It's definitely the second of the beats you wrote BUT it is hard to get it to swing at that speed...believe me I've tried!

it sounds like youre just using downstrokes with your pick when youre hitting that open a pedal note. i beleive it sounds thinner because its(the pedal note) not being alternate picked. are you just downstroking? btw i think it sounds pretty good you hit the quik hammer run at the end of the intro great.

couldn't play it with just downstrokes...it's too fast! It's def up and down but getting it to swing is hard at that speed

I don't think Ed just does downstrokes on it either, you can't get it to swing right that way, I agree.

Sounds Great! Nice touches on the solos. I can't figure out why the beginning sounds different either?? The amount of notes are the same but the timing is off for some reason. Mine sounds different even though it's the same amount of notes. I think it's what notes are being accented or how long the notes are.Attachment

I hear you moe, it's all in the timing. Ed's got so my style to what he does and i'ts so natural to him, I have always had a hard time getting it right myself [img]images/smilies/headscratch.gif[/img] Although that was a pretty close take.

I know what doesn't help it...the hi hat signature on the drums. It was there to help and supposed to be taken off in mix but we forgot! The original doesn't have it.

This is one of my favorite VH songs. Giant speed stuff, rhythm and lead. IMO Ed at his bests.

You did very well on this song, but the intro doesn't have the swing in timing. And IMO it is not ONLY the hihat.

I found this one on Guitar-Pro and to me it gives the timing a bit.

But don't take my comment to hard. I once tried to do this intro, but I didn't manage it at 25% of the speed.......

This song is just an amazing piece of the rhythm and lead playing capabilities of Eddie.

I came accross a technique that really helped me learn this tune. I struggled with this for years and finally one day I got it, this is how I did it:

Do this:

1) Play the A pedal using alternate picking, beginning with an upstroke, this ensures that when you hit the B note on the 4th string you're on a downstroke.

2) Play the A pedal for several bars, don't even worry about the notes on the 4th string yet, just try to get the 'swing feel' of the intro.

3) If you know the riff well enough (from hearing it a gazillion times like we all have) then begin to fret the notes on the 4th string (don't pick them yet, just fret them) while continung to pick the A notes. Jam along to the tune if you don't have it totally memorized. Really try to get the feel of it by accenting the right notes.

4) After you've practiced fretting the notes while picking the A note for awhile, begin to pick the other notes, you'll find that it's not that hard!

That was cool! I know that was your band, but can you just get the backing tracks for that. I loved that. It a tough song, but a kick ass one as well!! Super job!!!!!!
