Hello all,

I've just joined the forum in the hope of getting some advice with regards to my first amplifier purchase.

As someone who has always wanted to learn the guitar, today I purchased my very first, an Epiphone SG400.

I'm seeking advice on a suitable amplifier to pair with it. I am avidly into home hi fi, so choosing the right amp is very important to me.

I have done some research of late, trying to find as many amplifiers that fall into my budget. However like all things audio related, you can't just compare components within a price category as they are not all aimed at the same application.

I have decided that $500 is a reasonable amount to spend, and should get me an amplifier of decent quality and build.

What I am unsure on though are things like driver sizes, power output, and the usual SS vs valve.

The dimensions of my current room are 14.5ft L x 11ft W x 8th H. My room also contains audio visual components and furniture. My taste and musical preferences vary from anything from blues to metal, so I guess if possible I would like an amp that is a good all rounder.

Any suggestions as to some amps I could look at would be greatly appreciated, especially if someone has heard first hand a particular amp with this model of guitar.
