I've owned this movie for years, and just watched it a few weeks ago. Don't really care for Ralph because he's a whiner, but the overall movie is great.
"Got a white boy by the name of Jack Butler...cuts headz every week, yes indeed."
"Jack Butler gon like you"
Hell yea!

Far as I’m concerned, Eddie’s the complete package. Technique aside, his rhythm playing, feel, songwriting, tone, riffs, leads, man, it’s all there. It’s like the best-tasting beer you ever drank in your life! ~Zakk Wylde

LOL That's great. I love that movie. I actually have most of that last scene with Ralph, Willie and "Legba" memorized.

haha, I showed this part of the movie to a couple of friends the other day, and when those lines came one of my friends said "hahaha, he just tough talked a little kid!" or something like that, and though ralph looked like he was 10 years old or something like that

I wouldn't go that far but I must admit I am not a fan. It was cool to see Vai in a film and it contains some of his balls-iest playing ever but I felt really disappointed because the opening scene with Robert Johnson going into the studio was filled with promise. Right down to the way he fingered his collar (because he wasn't used to wearing a shirt and tie) then it quickly descends into a teen road movie. RM did ok with the miming and suspension of disbelief was possible at times - but this was thanks to Arlen Roth.
Ry Cooder gets a lot of credit for the music in the film but I remember reading an interview with Arlen in Guitarist and he was really pissed that the soundtrack was all credited to Ry Cooder. He basically said Cooder only played 2 tunes and was originally drafted for the guitar duel at the end. Unfortunately for him - they were more keen on getting Vai. I think Arlen said they released the soundtrack under cooders name to keep him sweet after replacing him in the film. Unfortunately for Arlen - he got little/no credit and most of the slide stuff on the soundtrack was his work. that is How arlen saw it anyway.
these days he is a bit more subdued and doesn;t mention any bad vibes between him and cooder...

You know, its not about the music in the movie per se, but I´m still waiting to watch a movie about modern music (take whatever style you like) for it to being worthwhile. I´ve seen great ones about classical music, even jazz, but anything else dealing with "modern stuff" has been just a big pile of horse manure made for the sake of it, knowing that a bunch of kids will go to the movies just to see their "hero", spend their doe on it, and be out of phase in a year, if not months.

I can't say the rest of the movie did much for me , but the end is worth getting the movie alone to see vai rip it up ...
and i admit ralph did a pretty good job miming but watch his right hand when he's playing those last few high notes of the trick bag it's hilarious ! he's gripping all the strings !

I had actually never heard of the movie at all. Then one night years ago I was channel surfing and it was just starting....so I watched it. I was basically bored out of my mind, but they kept building up the "Duel" so I hung in there. My wife was demanding that I change the channel every 10 minutes.
Then when they first showed Vai spitting whiskey all over the place at the end I about died laughing. I yelled at my wife.."OMFG it's Steve Vai! I don't believe it!"
She said "Who is Steve Vai?"
The last 15 minutes were great....but I could never buy in to the kid outplaying Butler.
Maybe if Zakk would have played Ralph's part?

Agree.
