Justin Timberlake Voicing Shrek 3
Source: ComingSoon!
DreamWorks Animation announced at "Animation Now: Imagination Innovation Inspiration" at Lincoln Center today that Justin Timberlake is joining Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas and real-life girlfriend Cameron Diaz in the voice cast for Shrek 3, opening May 18, 2007.

Timberlake will play a young King Arthur, or "Artie," King Harold's rebellious nephew who has no interest in being king, producer Aron Warner says. It's up to Shrek (Myers) to teach Artie how to act like royalty, Warner says.

You may remember that in Shrek 2, a poster of "Sir Justin" hangs in Fiona's girlhood bedroom.

Warner revealed a few more details saying "there is a baby involved" and that "in teaching Artie to be king, Shrek has to overcome his deep-seated fear of being a father."

Harry Potter 4 is Coming to IMAX
Source: ComingSoon!
IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures will release Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on November 18 on IMAX screens and conventional 35mm theaters.

It's the second time the the J.K. Rowling wizard has graced IMAX screens; last summer, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The IMAX Experience" became one of IMAX's highest-grossing digitally remastered films.

Warner Bros. will be the exclusive distributor of "Goblet of Fire" to IMAX theaters worldwide. The fourth film is directed by Mike Newell.

Warner Bros. is also releasing Batman Begins and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory simultaneously in IMAX and conventional theaters.

Robert Rodriguez to Helm Conan
Source: ComingSoon!

TheArnoldFans.com is reporting they have confirmed an earlier report that Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has been tapped by Warner Bros. Pictures to helm a new version of Conan. The studio is no longer going with Conan the Barbarian director John Milius for the project. Milius was developing a film titled King Conan: Crown of Iron.

The site adds that if Rodriguez can get Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in the film, the project would still be "King Conan" but would have a new script. If Schwarzenegger is not available, you can expect an all new Conan.

Rodriguez has also directed the "Sky Kids" trilogy, Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. This summer he's bringing The Adventures of Shark Boy & Lava Girl in 3-D to the big screen, for which you can now view the trailer at Moviefone.

"Hitchhiker's Guide" Galactic
Source: E!Online

Despite some so-so reviews, the sci-fi comedy trip got a thumbs up from moviegoers and easily topped the weekend box office, debuting with $21.7 million, thumping the weekend's other top newcomer, the Vin Diesel-less sequel XXX: State of the Union, which stalled in third place with $13.7 million, per studio estimates Sunday

Hitchhiker's Guide, the long-awaited big-screen adaptation of Douglas Adams' wry trek through a very strange universe, debuted in 3,133 theatres, where it averaged $6,929. The PG Disney release, the first would-be blockbuster of the season, was directed by Garth Jennings and stars Martin Freeman (from the British version of The Office) as Earth survivor Arthur Dent, whose trippy intergalactic itinerary also includes Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel, Sam Rockwell, Bill Nighy, John Malkovich, assorted Jim Henson Creature Shop creatures and the voice of Alan Rickman.

"Obviously, the thought process of the public was, 'That looks interesting. I want to see it. It's fresh and looks different,'" Chuck Viane, Disney's head of distribution, commented to the Associated Press.

With no Diesel power, the Ice Cube-starring XXX sequel failed to garner extreme ticket sales. The PG-13 Sony/Revolution release, directed by Lee Tamahori and costarring Samuel L. Jackson and Willem Dafoe, opened at 3,480 theaters, where it averaged only $3,937.

Diesel's XXX opened in August 2002 with a fast and furious first place finish of $44.5 million from a $13,191 per-screen average. It eventually grossed $141.2 million. Despite Ice Cube's popularity--his most recent movie, the family comedy Are We There Yet?, has grossed $81.3 million since opening in January with a first-place $18.5 million--the State of the Union is grim.

Rory Bruer, Sony's head of distribution, told the Associated Press he couldn't explain why the movie had opened so weakly. "Certainly we are disappointed, because it's a film we all believed in. We have Ice Cube, who is a big star, and I think he's one of those rare actors who really can do just about anything. So I really don't know."

Meanwhile, The Interpreter, bumped from the top slot it occupied a week ago, earned $14.2 million in second place. The PG-13 Universal release only dropped a modest 38 percent and has so far grossed $43.6 million.

The U.N.-based thriller, directed by Sydney Pollack and teaming Oscar winners Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman, added six screens to play at 2,764 sites and averaged $5,137.

In very limited release--at just seven screens--Sony Pictures Classics' R-rated Korean import 3-Iron, an on-the-lam love story, averaged $3,103 for $21,721.

The top 12 films grossed an estimated $84.7 million, up 3 percent more than last weekend, but still down from last year for the 10th straight week. A year ago, Mean Girls snitched up $24.4 million in the top slot, and the overall gross was 10 percent higher.

Final figures are due Monday. Here are the estimates for the top 10 films, according to Exhibitor Relations:

1. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, $21.7 million
2. The Interpreter, $14.2 million
3. XXX: State of the Union, $13.7 million
4. The Amityville Horror, $8.1 million
5. Sahara, $6 million
6. A Lot Like Love, $5.2 million
7. Kung Fu Hustle, $3.8 million
8. Fever Pitch, $3.7 million
9. Robots, $2.6 million
10. Guess Who, $2.2 million

Matt Damon to Play Marco Polo
Source: ComingSoon!

Warner Bros. Pictures has set Kingdom of Heaven screenwriter William Monahan to write Marco Polo, a historical epic based on Polo's autobiography "Travels" that will be a star vehicle for Matt Damon.

Variety says a deal is being negotiated for Damon to play Polo, who ventured farther into Asia than any Westerner before him. His journey took 24 years, during which Polo became a confidante of Kublai Khan and witness to many technological advances of China and Mongolia.

Monahan also wrote Tripoli, the story of how U.S. soldier William Eaton joined forces with an exiled king to overthrow the corrupt ruler of what is now Libya. Ridley Scott is attached to direct.

Monahan is adapting the Cormac McCarthy novel Blood Meridian for Scott to direct, with Scott Rudin producing.

Mork&Mindy: The Movie?
Source: Moviehole

Deep in a san-fran bungalow, Robin Williams is brushing up on his 'Nanoo, Nanoo'. Why? seems the fuzzy-funnyman is set to return to the role that put him on the map - that of earth-visiting alien Mork.

Williams tells Sky that he's keen to bring the "Happy Days" spin-off to the silver screen.

“It's still a great story and ahead of its time", says Williams.

In the series, which ran from 1978-1982, Williams played A wacky alien who comes to Earth and falls for pretty young Mindy McConnell, played by Pam Dawber.

Producer Garry Marshall ["Happy Days"] came up with the idea of the orignal series during a chat with an ABC exec. He introduced the character of Mork, by way of a guest appearance, on his hit series "Happy Days".

Will Williams wear the red jump-suit again? "I may be a little old but do aliens really age?"

Regardless, as long as Bebo gets a run.

Ironically, the special "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Mork & Mindy'" aired on NBC last month. Last year, the DVD set of the original series hit the shelves.

Samuel L. Jackson is Afro Samurai
Source: ComingSoon!

Acclaimed actor and producer Samuel L. Jackson is set to voice and produce the highly anticipated animated action-adventure Afro Samurai for Spike TV, with Japanese anime studio Gonzo and Japan's largest TV network, Fuji Television. The five episode series will premiere on Spike TV in 2006.

Afro Samurai is the tale of a black samurai futuristic, yet feudal Japan who is on a mission to avenge the wrongful death of his father. Samuel L. Jackson stars as "Afro," a warrior who travels a solitary path encountering a myriad of enemies, friends and challenges beyond imagination. The series, produced in Japanese animation, blends samurai style with hip-hop, creating a kind of action that American audiences have never seen before.

"With Samuel L. Jackson involved with this project combined with the talents of Gonzo, the leader in producing cutting-edge Japanese animation, and featuring a funky, hip-hop soundtrack -- this project was irresistible for us," says Kevin Kay, Executive Vice President of Development and Production for Spike TV. Radcliffe Back for Order of the Phoenix
Source: ComingSoon!

USA Today has published two articles on the "Harry Potter" franchise. In one of the articles, 15-year-old Daniel Radcliffe confirms that he will be back as Harry in the fifth movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which starts filming next year.

The other article talks about some of the changes you can expect in the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Here's a clip:

The physical requirements were much tougher this time. Goblet is more of an action thriller than the previous three because it centers on an elaborate physical contest, the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

Pitt & Blanchett Aboard Fincher's Button
Source: ComingSoon!
Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett are in talks to star in the long-gestating adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald story The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which David Fincher is directing from a script by Eric Roth.

Variety says Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures are co-financing the project, with Paramount handling domestic rights and WB taking international. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are producing.

The story centers on an elderly man who gets younger as time passes and encounters complications when, at age 50, he falls in love with a woman who is 30.

Pitt is working with Blanchett on a second Paramount project, Babel, which Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is directing. He next stars in Mr. and Mrs. Smith and his other upcoming projects include Chad Schmidt for Columbia Pictures.

Oscar winner Blanchett (The Aviator) recently signed on to star in The Good German with George Clooney and Tobey Maguire.

Constantine DVD Announced!
Source: SuperheroHype!
Warner Home Video has announced the details for the Constantine DVD, coming July 19th. The Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz-starrer has earned an impressive $211.1 million worldwide. The movie will be available in both a two-disc Deluxe Edition and single-disc Widescreen and Full Screen versions.

The Deluxe Edition includes audio commentaries (director Francis Lawrence, producer Akiva Goldsman and screenwriters Kevin Brodbin and Frank Capello), 18 minutes of deleted scenes (including an alternate ending) with optional commentary by director Francis Lawrence, "The Production From Hell," "Imagining the Underworld" (includes a 'Demon Face' Easter Egg), "Foresight: The Power of Pre-Visualization" and "Conjuring Constantine" featurettes, A Perfect Circle's "Passive" music video, theatrical trailers, DVD-ROM content and a collectible Hellblazer comic.

The single-disc editions will include the 18 minutes of deleted scenes with alternate ending, theatrical trailer and DVD-ROM content.

Based on the DC Comics/Vertigo Hellblazer graphic novels and written by Kevin Brodbin and Frank Cappello, Constantine tells the story of John Constantine (Reeves), a man who has literally been to hell and back. When he teams up with skeptical policewoman Angela Dodson (Weisz) to solve the mysterious suicide of her twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

Rush Hour 3 is a Go!
Source: ComingSoon!

Chris Tucker, who has made only "Rush Hour" films since 1998, is expected to sign a two-picture, $40 million contract at New Line, reports Variety.

Tucker's signature, to be delivered after a meeting today with director Brett Ratner and screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, will put Rush Hour 3 on track for a late fall start in Los Angeles and Paris.

Tucker's involvement also activates a near-$20 million payday for Jackie Chan and a $7.5 million payday for director Ratner, adds the trade. It essentially greenlights a film that will cost around $100 million and will anchor New Line's 2006 summer.

Nathanson, who wrote Rush Hour 2 and just finished Indiana Jones 4, will begin writing the sequel script as soon as Tucker signs. Nathanson pitched his vision to all of the principals weeks ago.
