Not such a slow hand at the wheel
October 15, 2004
Rock musician Eric Clapton
made another claim on being the fastest guitarist in the world as he was caught driving at 216 kmh on a French motorway.
Once known ironically as "Slow Hand" because of the speed of his guitar-playing, Clapton was intercepted on Tuesday by two motorcycle police officers after driving his Porsche 911 Turbo, 86 kmh over the speed limit on the A6 near the Burgundy town of Beaune.
Police said yesterday 59-year-old Clapton had his driving licence automatically revoked.
He was also fined $US925 ($1277) before being allowed to continue on his way - but as a passenger, his secretary having taken the wheel.
