The Pink Panther 4 DVD Cartoon Set
Hi there,
I got this for Christmas off the wife. Really pleased, as I'd only mentioned it once, but she'd happened to take not and go out and get it for me.
I always loved these cartoons, always made me chuckle. Someone asked me recently if it was because they never had any dialogue in them, it meant I could enjoy them more since it meant my hearing problem was never a factor in whether I would enjoy it or not.
Certainly a theory. The liner notes state how for the title credits of the first film there was to be no dialogue but a character was needed. So the pink panther was born, relying heavily on mime techniques to portray the story.
Anyway, I was watching some of the cartoons the other day, and was still enjoying them.
But man, he is such a little bastard ! In the first two cartoons alone, he was breaking into someone's house and painting the house pink whilst the poor soul was doing his upmost to paint it blue, and then he broke into someone else's house just for somewhere to sleep.
I think that's why I liked it so much in the first place, because he was a little bastard, and he got away with so much shit.
Anyway, it's a great DVD if you're into the cartoons. 4 DVDs, with hours and hours of cartoons, over a hundred in total.
I used to love when this came on the T.V. and you'd get the funky theme tune (off the top of my head) :
"Well here he is the Pink Panther...
The Rinky (?) Pink Panther...
And it's as clear as your nose...
That he's the one and only truly original...
Panther Pink Panther from head... to... toe... !!!!
(P-I-N-K P-A-N-T-H-E-R) !!!"
The only thing to top it off would be to have this alternative tune and that little scene where the guy turned up at the end in the pink dragster car and then set off and The Pink Panther chased after him down the road.
Used to make me laugh, anyway.
Anyone else into the Pink Panther, or am I on my own here ?

I haven't watched those cartoons in years and they were great! All I can really remember was that there was a Pink Panther/Ant and Aardvark hour that I really enjoyed right before George of the Jungle came on.
Then it was time for my folks to watch Lawrence Welk and I was outta there!

Yeah, that's another thing that would complete it. Sam (was it Sam ?) the laid back ant and the Aardvark, and Krazy Legs Krane and the dragon fly.
If I remember rightly, the dragon fly used to actually breathe fire when he got pushed into a tight corner by old Crazy Legs. Or it might be my mind playing tricks on me. I seem to remember him having a really spoddy son as well, who was more than crafty enough to catch the dragon fly, but ol' Crazy Legs would always mess up whatever plan his son had cooked up.
I seem to remember the dragon fly being rather camp as well...

We didn't have the Crazy Legs or Dragon Fly. Methinks we had "Jabber Jaws" (or something like that) instead.

Ah, Crazy Legs was good man !
I managed to find the lyrics to the theme tune I was talking about
The Pink Panther Theme Song Lyrics
Title: "The Pink Panther Theme"
Written By: "Kevin McCorry"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think of all the animals you've ever heard about
like rhinoc'ruses and tigers cats and mink
There are lots of funny animals in all this world
But have you ever seen a panther that is pink?
Think!
A panther that is positively pink,
Well here he is, the pink panther,
The rinky-dink panther,
Isn't he a panther ever so pink?
He really is a groovy cat,
and what a gentleman, a scholar, what an acrobat !
He's in the pink - the pink panther
The rinky-dink panther,
and it's as plain as your nose,
that he's the one and only, truly original,
Panther-pink (panther) from head to toes !

I certainly never noticed anything that tokk away the enjoyment of it. Maybe in a special effects film like The Matrix, or an animation like The Incredibles, but the animation in these ones were't exactly cutting edge !
The star of the show is still there in all his pink glory. All I think you're missing is a few clouds and a bit of grass maybe...
