Michael Madsen Says Brosnan is Done with 007
Source: Coming Soon

The Toronto Sun talked with Michael Madsen (Kill Bill: Vol. 2), who is a good friend of Pierce Brosnan, about the next James Bond film.

"Pierce lives right down the beach from me. Our kids play together," Madsen said. "And he told me he doesn't want to do another one. I also heard that they bought him out. I really don't know but an impasse is an impasse."

Madsen said he was told that Brosnan will be replaced with an Australian, although he did not know who.

Madsen said he himself is interested in the new Bond because he was supposed to get a role in it. He last worked with Brosnan as Bond in Die Another Day, playing Damian Falco.

"Well, I was going to do it with Pierce but, now that Pierce is out of the Bond picture, I don't know what is going to happen. If (producer) Barbara Broccoli calls me up and says: 'Michael, I want you to be in the James Bond picture,' I'll probably go do it, but I'm not going to call her."

Re:

Million-Dollar Booty
Source: Entertainment Weekly
J. Lo's mom wins $2.4 million slots jackpot. Guadalupe Lopez wins big return on $3 investment in Atlantic City by Gary Susman

Love don't cost a thing, but college can be expensive; fortunately, Guadalupe Lopez now has $121,000 to fund the higher education for her two grandchildren. Lopez, better known as J. Lo's mom, picked up a check for that amount Saturday night at Atlantic City's Borgata casino after winning a multimillion-dollar slot machine jackpot playing for just 10 minutes and betting just $3, the New York Daily News reports. (She'll get the rest of the $2.4 million windfall in installments over the next 19 years.) According to Us Weekly, that first check will go toward the grandkids' college fund.

Lopez, a 58-year-old retired Bronx kindergarten teacher, apparently has better luck as a gambler than her almost son-in-law, Ben Affleck. His lavish gambling sprees were reportedly one of the issues that split up Bennifer, but a source tells People magazine that Ben was the one who taught Guadalupe to gamble. Her 800,000-fold return on her investment will yield a total of $2,421,291.76, the Borgata's biggest jackpot since the casino opened last summer. By comparison, Ben and Jennifer's movie ''Jersey Girl'' earned an estimated $2,178,000 in theaters nationwide that same night. (It's grossed $15.8 million in its first 10 days.) Guess the Atlantic City gambler was the more lucrative Jersey girl.

John Woo Bringing Metroid to the Big Screen
Source: Coming Soon

John Woo has optioned Nintendo's best-selling video game franchise Metroid for the big screen, says The Hollywood Reporter. Woo will produce the sci-fi movie and has the option to direct. Terence Chang and Brad Foxhoven will share production responsibilities. Lion Rock Productions' Suzanne Zizzi also is attached to the project.

The plan is to release the first film before 2006. The movie will center on the origins of the game's female protagonist, sexy bounty hunter Samus Aran, and relate her adventures battling the insidious life-sucking Metroids and their controlling force, Mother Brain.

"We have to assume the mainstream audience is unfamiliar with the property," Foxhoven said. "As for the rest of the film, we will stay true to the game and have Samus battling the Metroids and Mother Brain in a fight for control of the galaxy."

Nintendo will unveil its eighth "Metroid" game, "Metroid Prime 2," at its E3 press conference May 11.

A Police Academy Reunion Movie in the Works?
Source: Coming Soon

Former football player and star of the "Police Academy" series, Bubba Smith revealed to About.com that a reunion movie is in the works. "Yeah, I think we might do one this year," he said.

Asked whether this would be a theatrical or TV production, Smith said, "theatrical. If we get all the people we want. We can get the whole cast, but there are some people that we want as our children who would be going in."

The veteran cast would apparently be training a new generation. Bubba says that a lot of the original cast, including Steve Guttenberg, are up for the project.

AMAZING SCREW-ON HEAD TO SCI FI
Source: Comics Contiuum

Cable network Sci Fi on Monday announced it is developing Mike Mignola's Amazing Screw-On Head as animated series.

Here's how the network described the show:

"Adapted from the critically acclaimed, Eisner Award winning comic book by Mike Mignola (Hellboy), Amazing Screw-On Head is a half-hour animated comedy based on the exploits of one of history's unsung heroes. A secret agent who never made the history books, Screw-On Head is in the employ of the U.S. Government. A robot that screws his head onto a wide variety of bodies, Screw On Head battles those who threaten our civilization."

Bryan Fuller and Jason Netter will executive produce. Fuller will be writing and Netter, of Kickstart Productions, will oversee animation.

The network also announced the Shawn Ashmore of X2 and Kirstin Kreuk of Smallville will be starring in the event movie Earthsea, and that it is working with Stan Lee on three new movies.

Re:

Tarantino mulls ''Kill Bill,'' ''Pulp Fiction'' spinoffs
On his back burner are an animated ''Bill'' prequel, a sequel, and the long-gestating ''Vega Brothers''
Source: Entertainment Weekly

POST-NUPTIAL PLANS Tarantino has many plans for The Bride (Thurman)

The upcoming ''Kill Bill -- Vol. 2'' may not be the last installment in the ''Kill Bill'' saga. The way Quentin Tarantino talks about it, his brainchild is practically unkillable, running rife with possible prequels, sequels, and spinoffs. ''Yeah, I’ve been thinking about revisiting the story in a couple of ways,'' he told England's Empire magazine. ''I’ve been thinking about doing it as an anime feature that would tell the entire origin of Bill, the marked-for-death crimelord played by David Carradine in the two films. The writer-director elaborated at a press junket over the weekend, telling Zap2It.com: ''I have an idea about writing, like I did for the animation section in 'Vol. 1,' a Japanese anime feature about the origins of Bill -- how Bill became Bill, you know, and deal with his three godfathers -- Esteban Vihaio, Hattori Hanzo and Pei Mei.''

Other ''Bill''-related ideas: a graphic novel about the DiVAS, the movies' female assassin squad; and a feature-length sequel, possibly animated, possibly live, about Nikki, the little girl who sees her mother, Vernita ''Copperhead'' Green (Vivica A. Fox), die at the hands of Uma Thurman's Bride in ''Vol. 1.'' Of course, Tarantino says, he'd shoot it in about 15 years, when the girl is an adult. ''It would be Nikki going out to get revenge on the Bride. Uma wouldn't be the star, she'd kind of be the bad guy, because the little girl kind of deserves her revenge.''

Tarantino is also apparently still talking, as he has been for a decade, about ''The Vega Brothers,'' a prequel to both ''Reservoir Dogs'' and ''Pulp Fiction'' that would tell the backstory of the gangsters played by Michael Madsen and John Travolta, respectively, in those earlier films. ''Kill Bill'' costar Madsen told Zap2It that Tarantino had figured out a way around the fact that both actors have aged a decade since their characters first appeared. ''So, he's going to do it and he has the idea and the idea works very well,'' Madsen said. ''I think it's just going to be a matter of getting the screenplay finished and actually getting out to shoot it because I think we're going to do this World War II thing first,'' he said, referring to ''Inglorious Bastards,'' the WWII action movie Tarantino is actually committed to doing next, in which Madsen will also costar. As for Travolta, who was also doing a press junket this weekend for ''The Punisher'' (which will open April 16 opposite ''Kill Bill''), he said he's willing to do ''The Vega Brothers'' whenever Tarantino is ready. ''But that's up to Quentin,'' Travolta told Zap2It. ''I don't question him. I wouldn't even ask him.''

As if Tarantino didn't have enough on his back burner, he told SciFiWire he'd also been talking to Pierce Brosnan about the possibility of directing the next James Bond movie, a remake of ''Casino Royale.'' Unlike the 1967 spoof, Tarantino's version would be straight and would focus more on character and plot than on spectacle, he said. ''I won't do anything that will ruin the series,'' he said, offering an apparent open-letter pitch to the franchise's producers. ''Wouldn't it be great to have a James Bond movie that didn't cost $115 million and only cost $40 million or something like that?'' he said. ''You know it's going to make its money back, and we [would] all do good. Maybe we win the critics this time, then you're back in business the way you were before.''

Of course, it's possible that none of these ideas will ever come to fruition. After all, Tarantino went three years without making a movie between ''Pulp Fiction'' and ''Jackie Brown'' and another six years before resurfacing with ''Kill Bill.''

MARS movie may be out of Rodriguez`s orbit
Development jeopardizes A PRINCESS OF MARS
Source: Cinescape

Director Robert Rodriguez may be in danger of not directing A PRINCESS OF MARS, Paramount Pictures' big budget sci-fi actioner based on the Edgar Rice Burroughs classic novel. The story first broke last evening on IGN FilmForce where a longtime source told the website that the movie studio and the director have had a "falling out" due to Rodriguez resignation from the Directors Guild of America. The filmmaker recently resigned so he could share a co-director's credit with SIN CITY comic creator Frank Miller on the Miramax movie of the same name now filming. The Guild doesn't allow its members to share a credit on a film with a non-guild individual, which forced Rodriguez to resign so he could make the SIN CITY film with Miller.

The problem is that Paramount Pictures cannot hire someone to direct one of their films unless they are a member of the DGA -- which Rodriguez is now not.

FilmForce attempted to seek confirmation of denial of the rumor from Rodriguez's camp as well as Paramount and Alphaville Pictures, the MARS movie producing partner. After a time Rodriguez's publicist returned FilmForce's call and issued the following statement: "As of today, we are not dropping out. We are still very much making that movie."

The story took on a larger role when today's Variety hit the web. The trade magazine is also reporting that Rodriguez's resignation from the guild has now jeopardized the development of the film. Furthermore, Variety reports that the director has no intention of rejoining the Guild once work is complete on SIN CITY. There is a possibility, albeit a remote one, that the Guild may allow a concession and the way could be paved for Rodriguez to direct A PRINCESS OF MARS for Paramount. The studio remains hopeful that a solution can be found.
