X-Men 3 to Start Filming in June 2005
Source: COMING SOON!

Sci Fi Wire caught up with "X-Men" series producer Lauren Shuler Donner who gave an update on the status of the third installment.

She says that filming is targeted to begin in June, 2005 in Vancouver, BC, for a May, 2006 release date. "I just had a conversation with [director] Bryan [Singer] today," Shuler Donner said. "We just started to talk about what the possibilities are. We're pretty sure Wolverine's going to come back."

Shuler Donner added that she's going to push to add Gambit and Beast this time around. "I'm dying to put Beast in. I tried to get Beast in the first one and the second one, but it was always too expensive. So, yeah, I'm really dying to get Beast in, and I'd love to get Gambit in, because he's such a cool guy. And there's some really good casting ideas for Gambit."

William Monahan Adapting Blood Meridian
Source: COMING SOON!
William Monahan (Jurassic Park IV) is in talks to adapt Scott Rudin's feature film of Cormac McCarthy's acclaimed novel Blood Meridian, which is now set up at Paramount Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter. Ridley Scott has been approached to direct the project.

Published before the trilogy in 1985, "Meridian," declared by some critics as one of the great novels of the 20th century, takes place on the Texas/Mexico border and looks at the uncompromising depiction of a crucial junction in American history. Set in the 1840s, the story centers on a young boy who gets in with a gang of outlaws employed by the territorial governors to clear Indians from the Mexican border area.

Scott and Monahan are currently writing and directing two projects together - Kingdom of Heaven and Tripoli, which are both set up at 20th Century Fox.

Tyler Mane Cast in Zombie's The Devil's Rejects
Source: COMING SOON!
X-Men star Tyler Mane - he played Sabertooth - has joined the cast of writer/director Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects, the follow-up to House of 1000 Corpses. The "Devil's Rejects" title refers to the nickname that the media has bestowed upon the band of murderers from the first film. The sequel concerns the revenge driven brother of slain Sheriff Wydell hunting down the family with a band of bounty hunters.

Mane replaces Robert Mukes in the role of Rufus Firefly. Zombie says that the change of actors from the first film was due to money. "We tried to come to an agreement with Robert Mukes but couldn't. We were told by his agent that he passed on the film. I along with the original cast members were shocked. We are very excited by the addition of Tyler Mane as Rufus to the cast of 'The Devil's Rejects'."

Original cast members Bill Moseley (Otis Driftwood), Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding), Sheri Moon (Baby Firefly), Karen Black (Mother Firefly) are returning. Steve Railsback will star as Sheriff Ken Dwyer, the local sheriff who finds the remains of what the Devil's Rejects are leaving behind in their wake as they move across the country. P J Soles will play Susan, a woman who along with her young child are violently car jacked by none other than Capt. Spaulding himself. Ken Foree plays Charlie Altamont aka Captain Spaulding's pimp brother, and Michael Berryman stars as Clevon, Charlie's dim witted sidekick.

Kane Hodder was previously announced as the new stunt coordinator for the film. Lions Gate Films will distribute the film.

Wolfgang Petersen Talks Batman vs. Superman
Source: SUPERHERO HYPE!

In Focus magazine talked to "Troy" director Wolfgang Petersen who says both the Batman vs. Superman and Superman movies are shelved at the moment. He compares Achilles and Hector in "Troy" to Batman and Superman...

"The two main characters in our movie, Achilles [Brad Pitt] and Hector [Eric Bana], are enemies and have the big, big, major fight in the movie – and you feel for both of them, because you connect to both of them," Petersen explains. "Both of them are part of yourself – with Achilles being the darker, more aggressive, edgy character and Hector the more positive, noble man."

He says that closely parallels what he had in mind for "Batman vs. Superman": "I mean, we have Batman and Superman in ourselves," he says. "We like Batman – we understand him, we suffer with him. On the other hand, we want to be Superman. But they're conflicting philosophies. Let's bring them together in one movie and see how we, as an audience, wrestle with our inner demons."

So is there any chance we'll ever see Batman vs. Superman or a new Superman film?

I ask the question myself quite often. I was just talking to Alan Horn about it and he said, "I always liked that concept so much." I think it's on the back-burner because Warner Brothers decided to go with single "Batman" and "Superman" movies. "Superman" is, at the moment, shelved; I think if they successfully launch it again, then at some point it will be "Batman vs. Superman" again. I'll definitely be attached to that project whenever….

The Weekend Box Office
TOP 10: VAN HELSING slays the competition
A $54.2 million dollar opening weekend
Source: CINESCAPE
To no one's surprise Universal's VAN HELSING took command of the box office this weekend; the only real question we were left to wonder about was how much Stephen Sommers' new monster movie would rake in. The estimates are in and it looks like VAN HELSING netted about $54 million dollars over its opening weekend. When compared to 2003's opening salvo for the summer box office, X2: X-MEN UNITED had an $85 M opening weekend at this same weekend last year and Sommers' last picture, THE MUMMY RETURNS, opened to $68.1 M three years ago. How will VAN HELSING fare next weekend when TROY sets sail?

Second place went to last weekend's champ, Paramount's MEAN GIRLS, which added another $14 M to its gross. Fox's MAN ON FIRE came in third with $7.9 M and the Olsen twins newest movie, NEW YORK MINUTE, flubbed in fourth place with a limp $6.2 M showing.

After spending six weeks in the top ten, SCOOBY-DOO 2 finally disappeared from the chart with a tally presently at a shade over $81 M. HELLBOY is in position #15 with a total of $58.6 M and the independently released fast food docmentary SUPER SIZE ME opened in #17 with half-a-million dollars to its name.

As always, here's the estimated box office receipts of the top ten films from May 7 through to May 9, with their weekend gross and the movie's total domestic gross to date:

1. VAN HELSING $54,215,000 $54,215,000

2. MEAN GIRLS $14,000,000 $42,397,000

3. MAN ON FIRE $7,900,000 $56,016,000

4. NEW YORK MINUTE $6,200,000 $6,200,000

5. 13 GOING ON 30 $5,500,000 $42,563,000

6. LAWS OF ATTRACTION $3,475,000 $11,889,000

7. KILL BILL VOL. 2 $3,023,000 $57,793,000

8. GODSEND $2,700,000 $11,273,000

9. ENVY $2,600,000 $10,062,000

10. THE PUNISHER $1,200,000 $32,145,000

The Latest Superman Rumors
Source: Ain't It Cool News

A spy infiltrates WB's SUPERMAN office and finds storyboards, models and possible casting hints!!!
Ahoy, squirts. Quint here with a very interesting report from one of our many spies deep inside the Warner Bros studios. This person brings up some frightening stuff... is it just me or does the description of Tyzor's suit bring up memories of "Nuclear Man" from Superman 4? Let's just hope Tyzor doesn't have a perm and a Freddy Krueger complex!
Before you dig into the below, just remember that the names he mentions are nowhere near signed. He seems to have stumbled onto the producer's dream casting possibilities... TIME is reporting that Jude Law, Brendan Fraser and Ashton Kutcher are still strong contenders for the role of Superman... Hopefully they're wrong and the below spy isn't. I'd much rather an unknown become Superman than watch Kelso trying to be Superman, you know?
The only below bit that worries me is Lex Luthor's possible casting... All are comedic actors. Are they going for goofy Luthor, then? Hrmm... Anyway, enjoy the below!!!
First of all let me say I'm a big fan of the site, check it everyday. This is my first time writing you, so I wouldn't do it unless I thought it was something of semi importance. Well, I have some news about the Superman movie and I don't think too many people will like it.

I work for Warner Brothers as [BLEEEP]. I was working on Saturday and I [BLEEP-BL-BLEEEEP] the new production offices on the main lot. On most of the production offices the title of the movie they are working on is right there on the door. This office was no exception.

I saw that the movie was titled "Flyby". I knew the Superman movie was once going under that title for secrecy reasons or something. Well, it cant be that big of a secret because right under the title "Flyby" is the Superman chest emblem, plus a giant Superman statue in the back room where anybody walking around the back of the building can see it from the window.

It ws my lucky day because it was around lunch time and no one was around and the door was left unlocked, so I had myself a look around the place. There were storyboards and models everywhere.

It appears that they are going with the scripts JJ Abrams wrote. I got a chance to read it a few months back and I know what a pile of crap that was. I heard that they were going to change a few things around in it but from what I saw it looks like they went with the original draft. I didn't see anything about Lex Luthor so I don't know if he is still an alien in this version.

The movie will still be about Superman fighting his cousin Tyzor and the battle on Krypton. There is a model of the Kent farm which looks like any other farm in Kansas. There is a model of the launch chamber where Jor-el will send Kal-el to earth. It didn't have any color to it yet so the entire model was white. The ship looks a little like the one in the Smallville show. except it has the "S" emblem on it.

There was a model of the fight scene between Superman and a kryptonian tank in the middle of Metropolis. The tank looks like a giant version of ED 209 from Robocop mixed with one of the rolling robots from the new Star Wars movies.

There were storyboards of Clark finding his Superman costume in that little Kryptonian canister in his mothers closet. He tries it on and flies around the Kent farm as Superboy right at the camera. Then the scene will change and he will be all grown up still flying at the camera.

There was also a storyboard of Superman's fight with Tyzor. Tyzors costume will be green with yellow shoulder pads and a yellow stomach plate. Tyzor will throw Superman down and he will land about five feet deep into the street. Superman then jumps out of the hole and uses his heat vision full blast on Tyzor. There was also a scene where Superman and Tyzor knock over a crane with a wrecking ball on it, and Tyzor rips the wrecking ball off of the crane by the wire and starts to beat Superman into the street with it.

Those were the only storyboards they had out at the time. There was plenty of art work of the battle on Krypton complete with green laser blasts. There was also a picture of the Kryptonian soldiers ready for battle. Remember the Ninja Turtle toys? Remember when the toys started to get out of control and they started to make Ninja Turtles dressed as football and baseball players? I think there was even one of Casey Jones dressed as a transvestite hooker. Well, remember there was one of the turtles dressed as Samurai swordsmen? This is what the Kryptonian soldiers look like except their armor is light blue.

Now this part is regarding the casting process. I stepped into a room with around 20 audition tapes and head shots scattered around the floor. Every picture fit the Superman type. All of them were unknown actors. Then I saw a bunch of pictures hanging on the back wall. All the pictures were in categories by character and all pictures were of actors and actresses cut straight out of magazines.

Under the SUPERMAN character was a lot of pictures of Abercrombie type guys and the only face I recognized was Jake Gyllenhaal.

Under LOIS LANE was Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Elisha Cuthbert.

Under JIMMY OLSEN was some unknown actors along with Adam Brody, and Topher Grace.

The only face under KATAZOR was Sean Penn.

TYZOR was all unknown actors.

The only face I recognized under JONATHAN KENT was Dennis Quaid.

LEX LUTHOR had pictures of Jim Carrey, Jonny Depp, Will Ferrell, and Robert Downey Jr.

The only face I knew under JOR-EL was Ben Kingsley.

It also looks like McG is attached to the project. His parking spot is right in front of the building with his name on it.

That's all the info I could gather on such a short notice since I am not allowed to be wandering the offices, but in this case I couldn't resist. I think this movie is going to really suck. They have a shitty script as well as a shitty director to go along with it. This movie is going to make Superman 4 look like Citizen Kane.

This is a little piece of info I thought the Fan boys would like. I got a chance to drop off some mail to Joel Shumacher's office and right above is secretary's desk is a picture someone drew and painted for him of Batman and Robin butt naked, still wearing their capes and masks, kissing hardcore and Batman is grabbing a handful of Robin's ass. This is the guy they gave the batman franchise to? I think Warner Brothers goes out of its way to ruin good franchises.

If you post this can you call me "PLAN B"

David Fincher to Direct Benjamin Button
Source: COMING SOON!
Variety reports that David Fincher (Fight Club, Panic Room) is expect to direct Benjamin Button, written by Eric Roth and to be co-financed by Warner Bros. and Paramount.

Based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's short story, "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," the film centers on a man who, at age 50, begins aging backward and the complications that ensue when he falls in love with a woman of 30.

Paramount will handle domestic distribution and Warner will market the film in foreign territories.

Triple H Closer to Landing Conan Role
Source: SUPERHERO HYPE!
IGN Filmforce has followed-up on the rumors from last year that wrestler Triple H may take over from Arnold Schwarzenegger in King Conan: Crown of Iron.

Confirming rumors first reported last fall, Warner Brothers and writer-director John Milius have indeed settled on wrestler-actor Paul Michael Levesque, a.k.a. Triple H, to play Robert E. Howard's barbarian hero. It should be noted, however, that it isn't a done deal just yet.

There's also no word on when King Conan might finally go before cameras. Triple H was previously rumored to be up for the role of Kon, Conan's estranged son. He'll next be seen as "Grimwood" in Blade: Trinity.

Del Toro Can't Get the Ghosts Out of His Head
Source: Bloody Disgusting

Guillermo del Toro, who made a damn good ghost movie is Devil's Backbone, is making his return to the genre with Pan's Labyrinth, which will be a counterpart to Devil's Backbone. You can read all of the amazing details inside.

Fangoria write:

"Following in the wake of HELLBOY's successful release, Guillermo del Toro is ready to roll on his next project. Though he has been offered such mega-comic-book properties as IRON MAN and FANTASTIC FOUR, del Toro will instead focus on the low-budget ghost story PAN'S LABYRINTH.

"PAN'S LABYRINTH will serve as a counterpart to THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE," del Toro tells Fango. "It's a full-on fairy tale gone wrong. My script is very much in the mold of CRONOS and DEVIL'S BACKBONE, and will be done without any commercial aspirations. It's going to be very scary, set against the fascist regime of Spain." As with DEVIL'S BACKBONE, del Toro will make the film for Mexico's Anhelo Producciones, with lensing set to begin in December in Argentina. Casting has already begun in Los Angeles.

"After PAN'S LABYRINTH, I will jump into my next big film, almost back to back. That project will either be HELLBOY 2 or IN THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS."

Ed Zwick to Direct The Talisman
Source: COMING SOON!
Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai) is in talks to direct the horror film The Talisman at DreamWorks, reports Variety. He replaces Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog), who fell off the project last week.

The film, based on a horror novel by Stephen King and Peter Straub, concerns a 12-year-old boy who goes on a supernatural journey in order to find the talisman that can save his dying mother.

Steven Spielberg is executive producing, with Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Colin Wilson are producing. Zwick's upcoming projects include directing Khe Sanh, a Vietnam pic with Tom Hanks attached to star, at Fox; and an untitled Robert F. Kennedy project, which he will direct and produce, also at Fox.

Swinton Confirmed as the White Witch in Narnia
Source: COMING SOON!
Tilda Swinton will star as the evil White Witch in Disney's and Walden Media's The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Director Andrew Adamson (Shrek 2) confirmed at Cannes that Swinton has landed the role.

The project is the first in a series of films to be based on the best-selling novels by C.S. Lewis. It concerns a war between good and evil, pitting the magnificent lion Aslan against the forces of darkness in the magical world of Narnia. The White Witch has used her dark powers to keep Narnia in winter for 100 years, but it is foretold that four humans will be able to help Aslan break the spell. When the Pevensie siblings -- Lucy, Susan, Edmund, and Peter -- discover the magic of Narnia by entering the enchanted world through a wardrobe, the stage is set for a classic battle of epic proportions.

Budgeted at more than $100 million, the film is scheduled to begin shooting in the summer in Adamson's native New Zealand.
