Forsythe is the Sheriff in Zombie's Rejects
Source: COMING SOON!
William Forsythe will play Sherrif John Wydell in writer/director Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects. Wydell has appeared in such films as The Rock, Raising Arizona, City by the Sea, Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead, and Once Upon a Time in America.

The Sherrif is the brother of slain Lt. George Wydell (Tom Towles) from House of 1000 Corpses. In the sequel, Wydell seeks revenge and hunts down the family of murderers with bounty hunters. Zombie said, "I was thrilled when William signed onto the film. He has exactly the heavy, menacing presence needed to make Sheriff Wydell more than a match for Otis, Spaulding and Baby."

Tyler Mane recently replaced Robert Mukes in the role of Rufus Firefly. Danny Trejo also recently joined in the role of Rondo, one half of the bounty hunter team known as The Unholy Two.

Original cast members Bill Moseley (Otis Driftwood), Sid Haig (Captain Spaulding), and Sheri Moon (Baby Firefly) are returning. Steve Railsback will star as Sheriff Ken Dwyer, the local sheriff who finds the remains of what the Devil's Rejects are leaving behind in their wake as they move across the country. P J Soles will play Susan, a woman who along with her young child are violently car jacked by none other than Capt. Spaulding himself. Ken Foree plays Charlie Altamont aka Captain Spaulding's pimp brother, and Michael Berryman stars as Clevon, Charlie's dim witted sidekick.

Pirates of the Caribbean Sequels Confirmations!
Source: COMING SOON!
Two cool news bits have come in this weekend about the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels. First up, Dark Horizons received a report from the NATO (North American Theatre Owners) annual meeting where Disney talked about the franchise.

He went on to talk about the sequel(s) to Pirates and said the entire cast and production team would be back. He said production would begin shortly on Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 and they would be released six months apart in 2006. This was news to me as I had only heard their was going to be one sequel.

This confirms earlier speculation by the Hollywood trades that Disney was going to shoot two sequels at once, much like the second and third "Matrix" films.

ComingSoon.net has also confirmed with a very reliable source that Johnny Depp's wish has come true. Rolling Stones' Keith Richards will indeed play Captain Jack Sparrow's dad in the sequel. As you probably know by now, Depp modeled Sparrow in the first film after the musician.

Paramount Remaking Romero's The Crazies
Source: COMING SOON!
Paramount Pictures is remaking George Romero's horror-thriller The Crazies, with Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris to produce at their Penn Station production company.

The project will update the storyline of the original, in which inhabitants of a small Pennsylvania town are beset by death and insanity after a plane crash lets loose a secret biological weapon into the water supply.

The original was released in 1972, four years after Romero's debut with Night of the Living Dead.

Universal Pictures to Adapt Tommysaurus Rex
Source: SUPERHERO HYPE!
Variety reports that Universal Pictures has paid $1 million to option Doug TenNapel's graphic novel Tommysaurus Rex.

"Rex" is due out this summer from Image Comics. Under the deal, TenNapel ("Earthworm Jim") can be called upon to provide an adapted script for the novel should the studio be inclined to ask for it.

The project is being developed for Universal-based helmer Tom Shadyac ("Bruce Almighty"), but it's unclear if Shadyac will helm or just produce the film, which has no screenwriter aboard.

"Rex" follows a young, nearly friendless boy who loses his golden retriever in a car accident. Devastated, he is sent by his father to recover on his grandfather's dairy farm, where he befriends a Tyrannosaurus rex.

Re: Weekly Entertainment & Movie News

Ain't It Cool News Reporting VENOM for Spider-Man 3

UPDATED!!! Big Big SPIDER-MAN 3 stuff here! Venom set up for the 3rd film???
Hey, folks. Quint back with some new developments on Spidey 3... Now, I still believe the below spy saw what he/she/it saw, but he/she/it got a few things wrong... beware heavy, heavy spoilers for the second film below. I'm not kidding, think twice before continuing on...
I got contacted by a few people who claimed to have seen a rough cut of SPIDER-MAN 2 and they told me that MJ DOES NOT marry John Jameson in the sequel and they confirmed the long ago rumors that the movie ends with the set up of Harry Osborne picking up his father's suit to be the next Green Goblin. I've confirmed this with a friend who I know for a fact has seen the rough cut of the film, although this friend kept reminding me that they've done massive reshoots and reediting since the rough.
I've also heard that Raimi hates the character of Venom, but I do believe that Avi knows the fanbase for the symbiote and is trying to get him into the movie, which is what I think the original scooper saw.
Some other people have been pointing at Dr. Conners (aka the Lizard) and his involvement in the sequel... Well, count the Lizard out for the third film... He might be popping up for a later film, but check out this email below... it jibes with all the word I've heard as well.
Ahoy Quint,

With all this Spiderman news being thrown around I thought I'd throw my little bit of information in too. My sister is an actress in New York and she recently was in an off-Broadway show, Sea Of Tranquility, with Dylan Baker. After one of the shows my brother and I had a chance to talk to Dylan about his recent experience working on Spiderman 2, where he is going to make an appearance as Dr. Curt Conner. My brother, being the huge comic fan he is, immediately asked if the Lizard was going to make an appearance anytime soon. Dylan's response was that maybe in a couple of movies they would bring him on as the main bad guy. They just want to set him up as a character in the Spiderman movie universe so they have the option in later movies to bring him on. Not sure if this is really any news that people couldn't figure out on their own, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Cheers,

Dynamo

So, to Venom or not to Venom? I'd love to see it tackled onscreen, but if Raimi doesn't have the passion for the character, then I think the Arads need to back off (if they are indeed pressuring Raimi into the inclusion of the character) and let Sam make his passion. When Raimi is through with doing SPIDER-MANs, I'm sure there will be quite a few people who would jump at the bit to take on Venom with the respect the character would deserve. Right now, I'd bet my bottom dollar that we'll see Harry Osborne put on that damned suit... Which I think is a shame... It's much too early to start recycling villains, especially with such a deep and rich pool to draw from. Thanks to "logan", "Dynamo", and "Sr. Bobby".
-----------------
Ahoy, squirts. Quint here with a helluva rumor. After speaking personally with this spy, I believe the below is 100% accurate... which leads to some serious questions, but I'll get to that after you read our scooper's report. Beware of spoilers from SPIDEY 2 below!!!
Dear Harry,

I've never contributed before but being an avid visitor of your site I felt this was my way of giving back a little. I'm sending you this because the last SPIDER MAN 3 news was absolutely and totally false. I was at the SPIDER MAN 1 Premier in Westwood, went to the party under the big top at the Veteran's Center on Wilshire and Federal ave, in West LA. So trust me , I know what I'm saying.

I worked at Sony while they were putting together the script for #2 and fleshing out the basic story for #3 and I tell you, the last guy who left that stupid stuff about Kraven and The Chameleon was totally wrong. This is exactly what will happen, may I be struck down and buggered by Clay Aiken and all of his claymates.....okay, here goes.

Spider Man 2 will leave off with a bit of a cliffhanger which will lead to #3, which will be friggin' AWESOME! Trust me, the villain WILL be VENOM. As you will see in #2 Mary Jane will marry J.J.Jameson's son who is an astronaut and planning to go up into space. This will pull Mary Jane away from Peter and in Peter's eyes keep her "safe".

Well hold on, while in space J.J. Jameson's son will be infected by some weird alien organism ( ala "Secret Wars #8" where Spider Man got the evil Black costume). The alien will travel back to earth with him and J.J. Jameson's son will either become VENOM or Peter will be infected with VENOM and go on a rampage.

Either way Spider Man will have to KILL J.J. Jameson's son/Mary Jane's husband in the end, which will bring Peter and Mary-Jane back together again. That's what I read as the summary of Spider Man #3, as you know they can change it, but from what I read, it will be Friggin' BAD ASS!!! You will be blown away, Sam really is the man when it comes to directing these things.

If you post this please call me .....Gary Oldman's #1 fan

I don't know how much I like this... I love the character of Venom... But Gary Oldman's #1 Fan made no mention of Eddie Brock. No Brock would mean no host that's pissed off at Peter Parker... Will Spider-Man still get the suit, then reject it, thus keeping the alien symbiote's hatred intact? Does New Line still have the Venom rights? Is that why they're going out of their way to change up the character, or is it just because?
Talking to Kraken, who's the most Venom obsessed friend I have, he informs me that this sounds like what they did in the SPIDER-MAN cartoon... Now, I don't mind JJ's son bringing the symbiote back with him, but why make him Venom? Isn't he Man-Wolf already?
Count me both excited and nervous. A fantastic Venom movie could be made, but without the cornerstones of his character Venom could be the next Bane and I most certainly don't want that. Just a word to the wise for the Arad's and Raimi... No Eddie Brock = pissed off fans. I'll keep my feelers out on this one, squirts. Hopefully Raimi will deliver an amazing, spectacular movie! Fingers crossed!

Ain't It Cool News Reporting X3 and X4 Shot Back to Back

X3 and X4 shooting back to back? Looks like it!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some exciting news for us X-MEN fans (yes, this is AICN... I know it's looked a lot like SUPERHERO HYPE these last few days, but I can assure you you're in the right place!!!) This idea of doing X3 and X4 back to back has been kinda rumbling around for a while and now we have the below email. I've contacted some of my Top Level sources at Fox and while they won't go on record, they confirmed to me that this is definitely the direction Bryan Singer is headed in. Exciting times! While Alffred below thinks this may be a way of making sure Hugh Jackman stays around for a few more films, I tend to believe they're attacking the Phoenix Saga, as alluded to at the end of X2, and wanting to do all the Phoenix stuff at once. Could this be Phoenix for X3 and Dark Phoenix for X4? Or Dark Phoenix for X3 and the rebirth of Jean Grey in X4? So many possibilities!!!
Greetings Harry.

Long time... Well you know the rest.

Talked to an old friend back in Vancouver BC who I went to high school with and haven't spoken to in a few years. He called on a completely unrelated matter and we just started yaking and catching up.

He owns a metal supply shop and has supplied metal and crews to a few movie and TV productions in the Vancouver area including X-Men 2.

He indicated to me that he's already signed the contract to do the same for X-Men 3 and then mentioned the contract would carry over to X-Men 4 which would film back to back with #3.

I have no idea if this is true but with Hugh Jackman indicating he doesn't want to do Wolverine forever I could sort of see them wanting to do this.

Anyways, just thought you'd might find this interesting.

If you use it just call me Alffred.

Kutcher or Fallon for Where's Waldo?
Source:MOVIEHOLE
Talking to About.Com this week, "Where's Waldo?" screenwriters Adam Cooper and Bill Collage revealed their choices for the always dissapearing jumper-adorned nuisance : Ashton Kutcher or Jimmy Fallon.

"'Where’s Waldo?' is being produced by Nickelodeon and Alan Rich. It’s at Paramount. It’s going to be this gigantic, magical, eyepopping thing for 4 year-olds to 4 year-olds of all ages. You know what I mean? I want it to be first movie my kid sees and literally, I want to see his eyes pop out of his head. It’s colorful, it’s amazing," says Collage, adding, "It’s going to be a combination of live action with a lot of computer stuff. Vibrant colors – it’s going to be just an enormous spectacle.", Collage tells the site.

Box Office Exposes Troy's Achilles Heel
Source: E!
Helen of Troy's face launched a thousand ships. Brad Pitt's gams inspired $45 million worth of ticket sales.
Troy, director Wolfgang Petersen's epic excuse to showcase Pitt in a skirt, finished atop the weekend box office with a less than epic $45.6 million, per estimates Sunday from Exhibitor Relations Inc.

The opening is more than $6 million off Van Helsing's chart-topping take from last weekend. Overall, Troy ranks a middling 13th among the all-time biggest-grossing May debuts, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Still, Exhibitor Relations President Paul Dergarabedian wasn't ready to bury the warrior flick.

"I think word of mouth is strong on the movie," Dergarabedian said of the older-skewing, based-on-required-English-class-reading tale. "I think it's going to play well. I don't think there's going to be a huge drop."

Warners best hope so--metal minis ain't cheap. Troy cost a reported $175 million to wardrobe and produce.

For Pitt, the sword-and-sandals saga represents the biggest bow for a film in which he unequivocably starred, as opposed to costarred with the likes of George Clooney (Ocean's Eleven), Julia Roberts (The Mexican) and Tom Cruise (Interview with a Vampire). In short, the makers of Meet Joe Black ($15 million opening weekend) and Seven Years in Tibet ($10 million) would have killed for a Troy-esque opening.

Speaking of bloodletting: Van Helsing.

The Hugh Jackman vampire slayer flick fell on its sword, dropping 61 percent from its $51.7 million opening to $20.1 million (second place). Through Sunday, the $160 million film had grossed an estimated $84.5 million.

Not even the Olsen twins experienced a Van Helsing-esque drop in cabin pressure. Their New York Minute was off a mere 37 percent from its debut, down to $3.8 million and seventh place. Overall, the nation's tweeners have coughed up $10.7 million in baby-sitting earnings to observe the new-school Redgraves on the big screen.

The Olsens may wish they were more like Mean Girls, showing staying power with another $10.1 million and upping its overall gross to an impressive $55.3 million.

Elsewhere, the new Jamie Foxx comedy, Breakin' All the Rules, opened in fourth with $5.3 million--a good start for a cost-efficient flick made for $10 million.

Kill Bill: Volume 2 moved down to ninth, but crossed the $60 million cumulative mark with a $1.6 million weekend.

The Punisher fell out of the top 10, with a punishing $350,000, per BoxOfficeMojo.com.

Envy also slipped out of Exhibitor Relations' upper echelon, although BoxOfficeMojo.com had it hanging in there with $1.03 million. Exhibitor Relations awarded its 10th place spot to Godsend, with $1 million.

The McDocumentary Super Size Me blew up to 11th place--$723,000 ($1.5 million overall) on 113 screens.

Jim Jarmusch's latest, Coffee and Cigarettes, lit up the limited-release scene, bringing in $102,000 on five screens, per BoxOfficeMojo.com. No film--blockbuster or indie--had a better per-screen average: $20,400.

The rerelease of the original Japanese-language Godzilla kicked up $48,000 on four screens, for the week's third-best per-screen average ($12,000) behind Coffee and Cigarettes and Troy ($13,372).

Here's a rundown of the top 10 grossing films, Friday-Sunday, according to Exhibitor Relations (final figures are due Monday):

1. Troy, $45.6 million
2. Van Helsing, $20.1 million
3. Mean Girls, $10.1 million
4. Breakin' All the Rules, $5.3 million
5. Man on Fire, $5.25 million
6. 13 Going on 30, $4.2 million
7. New York Minute, $3.8 million
8. Laws of Attraction, $2.1 million
9. Kill Bill: Volume 2, $1.6 million
10. Godsend, $1 million

Tarantino, Bishop & Madsen Take a Hell Ride
Source: COMING SOON!

Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino and "Vol 2" star Larry Bishop, who played the foul-mouthed owner of the strip club where Michael Madsen's character worked, will produce biker film Hell Ride. Bishop is writing and will direct the film, as well as star in it with Madsen. Tarantino might star in the movie as well.

The Hollywood Reporter says the story deals with the characters Pistolero (Bishop), the Gent (Madsen) and Comanche (Tarantino) and the deadly unfinished business among them. The film's budget would be low and it would shoot in August or September.

Bishop starred in several biker movies in the late '60s and early '70s, including The Savage Seven, Chrome and Hot Leather and Angel Unchained. He also wrote, directed, co-produced and starred in 1996's Mad Dog Time.

Troy Team Aboard Xanth
Source: COMING SOON!
Warner Bros. has bought rights to the Piers Anthony-penned fantasy novel series "Xanth" to be produced by Troy director Wolfgang Petersen and writer David Benioff, along with Diana Rathbun of Petersen's Radiant Productions.

A Spell for Chameleon is the first book in the series, which will see its 30th installment published next year, says Variety.

The novels concern a boy named Bink in the world of Xanth, where every inhabitant is supposed to possess magical power. Unless Bink can discover his power, he'll be banished from his homeland. That leads him on an adventure.

Steven Seagal and David Zucker Team for Comedy
Source: COMING SOON!
Variety says Steven Seagal has signed a deal with Fox Searchlight and producers David Zucker and Gil Netter to develop a comedy starring vehicle directed by Zucker, who helmed Scary Movie 3.

The trade says the deal comes as a result of Seagal parodying his tough guy image in the producer and studio's upcoming The Onion Movie.

Zucker and Netter are working with Steamroller Productions, the Seagal company run by Phil Goldfine, to find the right comic vehicle. Ideas include having him play a bumbling federal agent.

It's Mr. Robinson for Kevin Costner
Source: COMING SOON!
Kevin Costner (Open Range) is in talks to play the male equivalent of Mrs. Robinson in the Warner Bros. comedy that advances the storyline of '60s pic The Graduate, reports Variety. Jennifer Aniston will play the young woman seduced by Costner's character. Shirley MacLaine will play her grandmother, the woman who inspired the character immortalized by Anne Bancroft.

The film is about a young woman who puts her marriage plans on the shelf so she can return home to Pasadena and unravel family secrets. She has discovered that The Graduate was probably based on her family, her grandmother was Mrs. Robinson and she doesn't know her real father.

Ted Griffin wrote and will direct the as-yet-untitled pic. Section 8's Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney are producing with Paula Weinstein. Shooting starts in the summer.
