Hi Guys, I am new here and I can certainly appreciate the work you guys do. I am close to 50 yrs old and no longer have the time and desire to play in bands anymore. Sites like this are a Godsend. I just wish this kind of technology was around when I was first learning to play. Of course I probably would have never left my house if it had been around. Let me make a small contribution if I may. Like I stated before I no longer into the band thing but about twice a month I play solo at a nice sit down restaurant that happens to have a separate lounge area. I was totally acoustic until I learned about backingtracks. I have a very small stage so I limit myself to 2 guitars , an electric and a flattop. As you all know many songs are recorded a half step down or even more. A lot of theses songs have been recorded standard keys on backing tracks but some some remain true to the original. I found some free software called Audacity thru PC Monitor mag. Although this program is intended to mash songs together it has a couple of features that have been very useful to me. It has a pitch changer and tempo changer. For example I play a couple Poison songs that are 1/2 step down and it wasn't practical to play them in the recorded key or re-tune a guitar in order to play them. I just use Audacity and change the key in seconds. If you want to download the application I will post the link below but remember this. It will take your MP3's and convert them to a wav. Audacity on it's on doesn't have a app to convert it back but you can download a file for it on their site although I couldn't get it to work with Vista so I used a free converter called Switchsound. Both of the programs are easy to use but if anyone runs into any problems just give me buzz and I will try to help. This is a great site.
