BB King
I saw him last year, what a great show, i payed 80 Canadian. Too bad this year i dont have 300$ to see him play, which is a total ripoff. The people in England can see BB King with Gary Moore (wow what a good concert) for 37pounds. I thought that he charged so much was because it was his farewell concert, but its the same thing in the UK and hes charging like 200$ less. Anyways im sad to see how he wants to rip me off just because its his last tour. Anyways, he can go play his last show in Montreal, im not the fool who is gonna spend 300$ to see him play without Gary Moore in Place Des Arts.
Is anyone going to the BB King/Gary Moore Concert in the UK?

Yeah i agree with you both, especially when the performer is long past his prime. It would be like paying 3 times more to see old hockey players play hockey.

that is one hell of a price. and to be honest... BB King does nothing for me whatsoever. so he bends a few notes and sings about how he got his heart broken ? . Big deal.
can i ask what you guys see in him ? . Cause frankly i just dont "get it" at all.

OUCH!!! Past his prime? what is the Prime age for playin Blues.
But I wont be payin $300 either. I love BB King...but $300 is too much for a show. I saw him in the 80's and 90's and paid $20-45 for the all day Blues Fest each time.
For $300 there should be free food and beer!!!!!!!

But why think it's BB who sets the ticket prices? I would bet at his stage in life...he's thinking about the music and that's it. If his promoters feel they can grab that price...that's who I would blame for the $300 price tag. It's more than I would pay to see anyone!! I think my line is nothing over $100 for anyone!! I could buy a whole library of the band/person's tunes for that much $$$! Cheers.

Grant: maybe you're familiar with goodbye concerts in Quebec...remember Charles Aznavour last's year concert..it was suppossed to be the last concert...my parents love him..but we could'nt afford the 300$ price ticket, sold out three nights...damn it..it was sooo good that he's coming back this year with a second goodbye concert...got the picture??
Remember Metallica big concert at the Colosseum at 140$/head??? same thing..they know we'll pay...

He bends a few notes and he did it in a time when Blacks were still looked upon as "trash" in the United States. His story is one of perserverance and not letting the bigotry and racism in america keep him down. While I wouldn't pay that much to see him he really was an inovator for the black culture, especially for guitar.
His guitar type of playing was definitely more refined for his time. That is why he is a big deal. I think for a combination of the awesome story and his guitar playing for his time.

I think i has to come down to personal taste. I like BB's playing very much...does he have to change or progress if he expresses himself? It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I do "feel" him. BB really set something in motion that a lot of folks try to do because I sounds easy, but i really is not..
There are gifted technicians sure..(like Yngwie), but to me...that is boring and surely gets old fast upon hearing 10 mins worth. So, IMO...it comes down to taste. I will respect both as players...but my preference falls on the side of "Slow Hand" and BB and those cats...Music is all good and wonderful, but I can't say I don't feel BB or appreciate Yngwie. They have their individual strengths and play to them. Cheers.

Yngwie definately gets old after a while. But i can appreciate him plenty. I can appreciate many players. But B B King just never did anything that made me think "wow... hes great". But yeah. personal taste. B B just aint for me i guess.
*moves on*

One of my older students has tickets for next Weds at Wembley and I'm still trying to decide. Wembley wouldn't be my choice to go and see blues and I've seen GM about 5 times tho not in this type of environment. I think the tickets come out at about £40.

I never really "got" BB king until i saw a concert on video or TV with bb king playing with a lot of other blues guitar players , Eric Clapton , buddy guy jimmy vaughn etc i think it was a tribute to SRV , and it was then that i realised what an absolute distinct voice he has , just from hearing him side by side with so many other guitar players , I think alot of guitar players far more technical and advanced than him could never play the blues like that . Whether you like him or not , you cant deny he has a very unique voice on the guitar that few if any can mimick .
does that justify outrageous ticket prices ? hell no ! .. but as someone said it's hardly his fault for some crazy prices .
my 2 cents !@
