can a modern rock band hold a candle to 80-83 Accept ..?

two accept albums released in this period, the one with fast as a shark on it and the balls to walls album.

can a modern band live with that ?

i say unequivocally and without hesitation .......NO !!

ACCEPT in this era were savage, they were raw, they were melodic, they had wolf hoffman and they could play. when i listen to modern rock bands, then put on my accept cd`s, i simply wince at the current output. do YOU think current output can match 80-82 Accept ?

I'm very old! I was in a NWOBHM band called Black Rose and we played at places like The Dynamo-Eindhoven, The Marquee-London and we got to see and hear bands like Accept, Loudness, TNT. I always thought they were much more powerful than either Anthrax or Metallica so I'd say...NO! I didn't much care for Accept but they were mighty heavy and had a singer who BARKED it out. Good call mate.

Re: can a modern rock band hold a candle to 80-83 Accept ..?

I'm gonna have to agree. I saw Accept in '86 at Newcastle Mayfair (you know where I'm talking about Wah!! ) with Dokken in support
Dokken of course, were awesome (my first chance to see Mr Lynch live!!! ).
However, when Accept's guitar roadie came out to check Hoffmans rig, just one chord shook the whole fuggin' joint. They proceeded to blow everyone away with their power - simply awesome.
I've got a bit of a soft spot for Accept and played 'Princess of the Dawn' on numerous occasions in my bands down the years.
Alos check out Udo's solo stuff. MEEETTTAAALLLLLL!!!!!

Well is it really fair to compare "modern rock" to ANYTHING rock oriented in the 80s?

I was never too much into Accept... although I think "Fast as a Shark" as a song kicks a$$. "Balls..." was okay, I just like the Marshall tone on that tune.

Priest's "British Steel", "Point of Entry" and "Screaming for Vengeance" are some freaking strong Euro Metal albums from that period too, and no modern band would even come close to rocking as much as those albums do. Not to mention anything the Scorps put out from that period ("Animal Magnetism", "Blackout", "Love At First Sting" ) and Saxon ("Wheels of Steel" and "Power and Glory") which are 80s Metal staples. yeah alpha thats all cracking stuff , but y`know what i think distinguished accept from the bands you mention ?

INTENSITY !! Accept were buttock wobbling , knee trembling savagery with killer hooks ....turned me inside out musically in 1982 at the tender age of 14 yrs.

your band list rocks , but accept nailed my irish arse to the floor (arse down, not upwards for parking bycycle wheels in ......y`understand LOL )

Good point, it's probably not fair and it's a fortunate thing too because IMO there is no comparison. Today's music is much less creative not only because of the lack of guitar solo's and talent for the most part but people's need for simplicity. Good solid progressive music is too much for the general public, people would much rather hear a three chord banger than anything.

BD, just a thought here but why couldn't you just take the 36DD's to the concert with you? That way you can smooch on them when they aren't playing your favorite tunes.

now i come to think of it, i remember 1983 , flick of the switch from ac/dc , crap !! this was remdeied by power & glory by saxon which i bought in dublin, what an album !! then into 84 they released the steaming cowpat that was crusader and its been a steady slide into the shitter since, remember the battle cry with hordes of fighting men and the monotone "come crusader..let battle commence..." , i was doing my paper round carrying a big radio playing it up loud.....i wished a passing bus had hit me after that LOL

[/ QUOTE ] I have to agree wit youse there about "Crusader"... And what the heck happened to Priest with "Turbo"...

Aside from the Scorp's rocking but poppy album "Love at First Sting", 1984-86 weren't very good years for Euro Metal...

ahh...the Mayfair...the City Hall was good cos I saw everybody there (Lizzy, VH, Rush, Black Sabbath etc) BUT the Mayfair was better because of the drunken debauchery that went on whilst watching! I saw the Scorpions with Blackfoot supporting, Ozzy with Ratt supporting (and spent most of Ozzy's set, handling a set of 38DD's that required attention in the ladies loo's!). What a place...brought a tear to my eye Rocker...

I think you've got to include Metal Heart on that list, the record after Balls To The Wall. Excellent songwriting, great production, definitely a classic. I saw them in 83 and again in 85 when they were touring for this record, very good live band!
