Enough guitarists, who are the best Drummers?

OK, lately I've been thinking a lot about drummers, mainly because its so HARD to find good ones. And to me, he/she is the most crucial part of a band. While the other members have varying ability, I've noticed all the bands I like seem to have GREAT drummers.

Please try to give ones that might not be so obvious to everyone else, here are mine, I'll start with the most obvious one.

1. John Bonham - arms of steel , can you say tone?
2. ZZtop's drummer - forget the name, Frank Beard?
listen to "tejas", intricate, amazing
3. Meat Puppets - Bostrom, just fantastic.
4. Clutch- JP Gaster, syncopated tribal monstrosity
Bonham the 2nd?
5. Rory Gallagher original drummer: Rod D'ath...just sick watch the dvds....amazing.

Hopefully someone will turn me on to some groups I haven't heard, thanks.

Who are the best drummers?

The ones that understand you never sacrifice the grove for a fill. Even if it's one that would bring Neal Peart and Lars Ulrich to their knees.

Surely it must be the great Cozy!

Pretty much the only drummer to have hit singles!

Not to mention the deeply impressive track record: solo, Hammer, Rainbow, MSG, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Brian May, Splinter Group, a million and one sessions...

One of the very few drummers you can recognise on a record, without reading the credits!

edit

Forgot to mention that he's the ONLY drummer to do entertaining drum solos! Never seen the audience sit through his maelstroms!

Cozy (R.I.P.) was awesome... but Hal Blaine has drummed on more hit songs than any drummer on the planet has or ever will.

Interesting suggestion, that may raise debate in its own right.

However, my meaning was that Cozy had several hits (at least in the UK) under his own name, consisting largely of drumming (quite different to Phil Collins or the Eagles); "Dance With The Devil" being the most famous - I suspect you'll recall a small oriental chap playing a drumkit in some recent advert, ending with kicking the kit over - that was "Dance With the Devil".

I can't believe nobody has said Mike Portnoy yet! The drummer for TOOL is really good (forget his name). Brain is really good (drums with Les Claypool among others). Kenny Aronoff is another good one
