Cool

Greatest Hard Rock Track of all time?

I was wondering what would be Guitar101s greatest hard rock track.

I'm not into nambi pambi, tiptoe through the tulips type stuff, I like to Leave the nursary rhyms for the kids.
but how far do you go till you say, its gone 2 far,
whats the Limit?, or Is there a limit?.

I'm gonna start off with Judas Priest, Painkiller.

When I first heard this track it bloo my mind, I couldn't believe the power,
technical ability, Solos, Vocals, production, infact everything about it
screams awesome.

It motors like a well maintained engine, it kicks like a mule, and rocks harder
than anything I can think off without going into Napalm death territory.
Its fast but not too fast, everyone in the band including the drummer is in
top flow and it all fits like a glove.

Even tho this track has been out for years & years I can still listen to it over
and over without getting bored of it.
Its just one of those tracks that for me shows everyone how to play hard
Metal/Rock.
This is about the level of hard rock I feel is about enough regarding the level
of Metal.
For me its a perfect balance of raw guitars and musical ability without going over the edge.

Maiden, Malmsteen, Metallica and many more come to mind, but for me this is the cherry on top of the Hard Rock Cake.

As a drummer I always wanted to play this track at the end of a set, cos my
kit would'nt have servived after this track lol

stay cool

I'd be here all day and change my mind every 5 minutes or so...but Dream Theater's "Scenes From a Memory" as a whole thing or "Overture 1928" as an opening of it is pretty much at the top of the tree for me.

Yes m8 its got stupid, Stick a guitar in a girl band/boy band and it goes into the rock section, the media havn't got a clue whats what these days.

I think the best way to describe it would be in the 70's / 80's Rock sense, were rock
music and metal was propper stuff, theres not that much propper stuff going on these days.

None main stream is another way of putting it.

Slipknott fit that genre m8
Cool Track I like this one myself, with being a 70's / 80's rocker I miss the solos in these type of bands.
In my opinion a rock track without a guitarist expressing himself just dosn't have that cherry on the cake.

You wouldn't get Slipknott on UK TV, it sucks over here m8.
they only feed us Nursary Rhyms lol

Love the baseball bat idea lol that was well cool.

stay cool

Thats a very tough decision and one that I find hard to decide on. I agree that Painkiller is a very aggressive and powerful song & album that showed alot of people that Priest was alot more than the 2 old songs they've heard on the radio for 20 years.

There are other Priest songs that are just as impressive to me as Painkiller such as "The Sentinal, Freewheel Burning, Screaming for Vengeance", and several others especially some off the Demolition album. I also like the older style Priest stuff. Victim of Changes, The Ripper, Beyond the Realms of Death, etc. These songs still give me chills when I hear them and prove what great musicians and songwriters these guys really are. It surprises me just how many Metal fans haven't heard any of these songs? Priest was a crowd favorite at Ozzfest for good reason...THEY ROCK!! They showed the younger bands what real metal guitar playing was all about and they were probably the only band there that played guitar solos.

I'd have to go back to the song that made me pick up a guitar in the first place.
Heartbreaker -Led Zep
Not "Metal" by todays standards but still kicks ass after all these years. and has all the elements that a hard rock song should have

Thats a great song but I've never really considered Zeppelin to be hard rock, even though they kinda paved the way for it. I guess they were hard rock for the 70's but I've always considered them to be in a class by themselves. The radio has ruined Zeppelin for me for the most part because they play the same old 5 or 6 songs over and over at least a million times a day and I'm just sick to death of them. Zep stuff is fun to play in bands though. I always loved playing Houses of the Holy.

I agree that radio has kind of "ruined" Zep. They always seem to play the same songs over and over again.
If not Heartbreaker then the one other song that has always been at the top of my list even after all of these years is
"I'm the One" From Van Halen I.
I have just always love the groove of that song and the second solo in it, to me anyway is one of the best leads of all time , by anyone!

Man PainKiller is an epic track, but I'd say it's more metal than hard rock ya know?
I'm thinkin' the greatest hard rock track of all time would be Detroit Rock City

I think this is almost impossible to answer but it's good fodder for conversation. For me, I think it's hard to stray too far from "Unchained" by Van Halen.

I've always had a problem with the word Metal, the only difference between the 2 is guitar tone.

Rock and Metal are one in the same to me.
I'm not sure I like the word Metal cos to the Majority it means they dont want to listen to it cos of the genre its been put in, it closes minds because of the stereo typing the media and some artists have given it.

Led Zep, Motorhead, Judas Priest and the rest are all the same in alot of respects, they have all come from blues, jazz & Rock 'n' Roll.
Its all Rock to me, So hard rock means bands like Judas priest, Maiden, Metallica etc. cos they just Rock harder than normal.

Metal has never sounded right to me, just media bullshit, as allways.
Plus the managers of these artists like to place there bands in a genre that hasn't been invented, so this gives birth of Death Metal, Thrash etc.
there always trying to start a new trend, to hook people into.

Its all media crap lol

stay cool
