Jan Akkerman

Anybody a fan of the band Focus? some people may say they copied Jethro Tull and Pink Floyd, but i disagree, i think Focus did something completly new... just wondering if anyone shares my admiration for Focus's lead guitarist Jan Akkerman... I think he might be a bit underrated...

Never managed to listen to as much Focus as I should have. Jan Akkerman is ace IMO. His playing on both Hocus Pocus & Sylvia (the obvious ones) was well before it's time.

What Kinds of Scales?

No doubt, Akkerman was WAY ahead of his time. In fact, in the '70's before EVH came along, everybody seemed to be sticking with pentatonic scales. Jan Akkerman and Uli Roth of The Scorpions were the only players I can think of who were playing "exotic" scales in the 70's. I mean, as far as they compare to modern lead guitarists, like your Marty Friedman's, for instance.
