Judas Priest

For whatever reason, I never really listened to that much Judas Priest. All I ever really heard was what gets played on the radio occasionally (i.e. Breaking the Law, You Got Another Thing Coming). And although that stuff was decent enough, it was nothing I'd ever really run out and by the album for (except maybe for that Electric Eye song MMmmm)

On a whim, I decided to Youtube their Painkiller song. Holy #^%#!! Is this the same group? It wasn't anything at all like I expected, at first I thought I had accidently loaded Slayer or Exodus. This is one of the best thrash songs I've ever heard. I was completely blown away, does anyone know if the rest of the album sounds like that song?

The Priest tunes up to mid 80's seem tamer to Pain Killer and their trash/speed metal from then on.
I prefer the period from Point of Entry / British Steel to Screaming For Vengeance

Painkiller is the heaviest song on the album, but the rest of the album pretty much kicks ass. When it was released in 1990, it stayed in my van's tape deck for months.

If you have never listened to much of their stuff, you MUST check out some of their live stuff prior to about 1986 (the Turbo album is when they started to get kinda cheezy...a problem they pretty much fixed when Painkiller came out lol).

Unleashed In The East is the ultimate Metal Live album (in my opinion).

Go buy the DVD Judas Priest Live In Memphis. It was filmed on December 12, 1982 at Mid-South Coliseum on their Screaming For Venegeance Tour.

I saw them for the first time a couple of months later in Salina, Kansas. I drove 90 miles through a heavy ice and snow storm (the concert had been postponed for 3 days due to the area getting something like 12-14 inches of snow and ice) to get to the venue. Salina was covered with a sheet of solid ice which made driving an extreme challenge. I saw many cars wreck on the drive there.

Anyway, I had a nosebleed ticket, but noticed after only a couple of songs that even though it was reserved seating, about 6 or 7 people were standing directly in front of the stage (not in a seat) leaning on the rail, and security was not making them leave. So I ran down there, and saw the last 3/4 of the show dead center in front with almost nobody around me.

Oh, and get this...I was tripping on acid.

Having never seen Halford in action before, I was blown away when he did one of his patented banshee wails.....apparently he noticed my reaction, and several times during the rest of the show when he started wailing, he would come over to where I was and scream directly at me! Then he would laugh like hell when my jaw hit the floor.

I left the venue that night a changed man.

They were absolutely amazing, and I still to this day say Halford is the greatest Metal vocalist of all time......truly he IS The Metal God!

Nice pic wildstarr!! I love the priest I've already mentioned before, I did have a fully signed CD after I met KK Downing at his home. My ex used o know him personally from when she was a kid she lived around the corner from him. But then I split up with her and she took all the stuff I had from them and burned it

The best way to enjoy Priest is live. I saw them in Green Bay, WI back in 1984 on the Defenders of the Faith Tour (best album IMO). This was my first concert ever and I was a changed human being. I SAW THE LIGHT !!! I knew from that point on that I wanted to play music. Ian Hill was my first influence playing bass guitar. They are one of the original metal bands and they still kick ass live today. Tipton and Downing are two of the best tandem guitarists. I do have to agree though, Painkiller does throw down quite nicely.
