Learning To See - Awesome!!!
Hey Guys,
OK, so I have just listened to the 3 news tracks at high volume on the new Best Of.. compilation. They're all good, but it has to be said, I think that Learning To See could be one of Sammy's all time best with Van Halen, and Ed's heavy guitar playing/sound is awesome.
I was prepared to be disappointed by these tracks because of what I had heard across the internet, but Learning To See rocks!! It even makes Aint Talkin Bout Love (which comes straight after it) sound flat and that ain't easy to do!!
Anybody out there agree with me?
Andrew - united with Mondola as UK based VH fans!!

Re: Learning To See - Awesome!!!
I TOTALLY agree with ya there. I was sittin round the house yesterday with LTS on repeat, and the song just moves me every time. The intro is just so beautiful, and in typical VH fashin the band comes chuggin in with a heavy ass riff. The lyrics are pretty good to if ya ask me, and Ed man. That guy is just amazing on this one. Cant wait for them to do another album.

When Ed talks about VH hasn't written their Stairway to Heaven, I have to say this sounds like they are getting closer. This song rocks!

Have to agree, Andrew. I sinple love this song. The intro adds so much to the song, and it is awesome to have the full quality there.
Funnily enough, I really like Up For Breakfast now that I have a non muddy recording !
We will be united when they get their old asses over the waters to the UK dude !!!

Hey Sucka,
Why don't you rip LTS, UFB, and IAT and replace the files above. I would love to hear real versions.

Dude, I wasn't saying i was a big fan of stairway, this was from Ed's mouth. And I wonder if he means more of the status that Stairway has achieved more than lyrical/musical content. Most of the world, if they hear just the beginning will know immediately what song it is. I have to agree with you though, that VH has written better stuff. But for that era, this was a defining song.

LOL can't do it man. I've actually had the studio tracks for about two weeks now, maybe more. We can't put them up here because of WB. Dont want them breathing down Eric's neck ya know. Would have been cool though.

Re: Learning To See - Awesome!!!
The new tracks are great....IAT is the single, but honestly, I think its the weakest of the trio. LTS is one of VH's best and Sammy does, like SuckaIn3piece says, a great job with the lyrics. As far as the selections on B of BW, I think that they could have done some other selections that werent on Best of Vol. I, like Doctor or Women in Love from II, Mean St, Cathedral or Secrets, House of Pain, 5150 (is it me or this not one of their best songs ever?), Mine All Mine, Judgement Day or Dream is Over, Dont Tell Me/7th Seal/Aftershock/Amsterdam? And while I personally think that the live cuts (all DLR songs) were VH thumbing their nose at DLR, why not put stuff that we havent heard on CDs before, like the cover of "Keep On Rockin In the Free World" by Neil Young? I saw them do this at Jones Beach in '93 and IT ROCKED....or put some rare stuff in their..like cuts from "Wild Life" or something...I know Im ungrateful sounding, but c'mon, its been 6 FREAKIN YEARS EDDIE!
