I liked Metallica but never jumped on the band wagon. I liked a few songs off of the Master of Puppets CD but their early stuff just didn't work for me. (Just my feeling). However, there is a demo CD I have in my collection that features Dave Mustaine on lead for Metallica in like 82' recorded in Hetfields apartment. I sort of dig this for some reason.

i used to be a huge fan of metallica but liked exodus anthrax megadeth and all that, but im more into punk nowadays,i dont think you have to be a great technical guitar player to make a song sound good(thats the goal isnt it,make it sound good?)i know the ramones arent as talented as eric clapton.....but they too are in the hall of fame, and theyr songs are better.but i kinda miss old style thrash....hell,as long as its not rap,ill listen to it,know what i mean, holms??

classic metallica kicks ass and by the way whoever thinks that dave shitstain is a better soloist than Hammett should get thier stupid fucking asses kicked. Everything they did after black album with a few exeptions sucked major ass. I can see why someone who never really sat down and listened to their old stuff would hate them, not otherwise unless you're an emo homo. or just don't like them because of the fact that they are popular which in that case you're a fucking fagget.

No you're not the only one who hates them. Every single effin' song is bang-bang-muted chord-muted chord-bang-tapping (terribly)-bang-bang-muted chord-bang. There's too many things wrong to name. First of all, Kirk is a puppet who doesn't write his own solos, the band does together. Second, vocals suck. A LOT. Hetfield just screams every single song as loud as he can except for One. The beginning of One is good because it has a lot of Michael Schenker in it (very similar to MSG's Rock Will Never Die), but then what do they do? They fuck it all up by the end by adding in the same fucking chord played really fast over and over. The only real, talented musician in the band is the drummer Lars, but, he's a douchebag. Major douchebag. Why is Metallica so big? What makes them likeable, no wait remotely listenable? You got me. Well, people have different tastes is music and if I liked music as shitty as this I wouldn't want people to make fun of me, it'd be bad enough just listening to this garbage.

Reason: I forgot to sum it all up with: Metallica is talentless shit

Meh. Different strokes for different folks, right? I really haven't listened to anything after the Black Album other than the title of track of St. Anger, which I didn't really enjoy. All I have to say is that I'd have 100% more respect for Kirk Hammett, as a guitarist, if his vibrato didn't sound like a bumblebee stuck in a glass jar.

I just didn't get the whole "let's cut our hair, drink martini's, play Lolapoluza and try and be Alt" era after the Black Album. I get trying to grow but that wasn't growing, that was jumping on the bandwagon.
"I Disappear" showed some signs of coming back, but the whole let's shoot ourselves for a movie thing just seemed like a band more self involved then worried about the fans. Hopefully the Zen master Rick Ruban can breath some new life into what sounded like a tired band on St. Anger.

I agree dude. Metallica is way overrated. you keep preaching the holy rock and roll my friend. I saw them 2 times and I couldn't tell you one thing about it except they were opening acts.

I liked them up to the Black album. Then they went against all they stood for.
Master of Puppets is a classic, period, I know few guitarists that can touch that song.
Hetfields an amazing rythmn guitar player. Kirk is ok. I am more of a Megadeth fan myself-but they did influence alot of bands like Pantera, Trivium and Slipnot in a good way-as I'd rather hear them then other crap on the airwaves.
Ya now they listen to current trends, and IMO last efforts haven't been good, large in part cause they haven't listened to their hearts but mostly their accountants.
Kirk-again on him is he technically the greatest-probably no, but at the same time I give him cred. for influencing thousands if not millions of kids picking up and buying their first guitar, not many can say that.
