Although similar in flavor; Corrosion of Conformity chews them up and spits them out. -

first 2 albums are classic. never mad on puppets but leper messiah is a cool track. hate justice, hate the black album, though some good tracks there found can be(unforgiven, nothing else matters). after that who fucking cares?
i also like their cover of whiskey in the jar and sabbra caddabra.

'80s Metallica isn't particularly overrated, except for a few songs like "One". Post-Justice Metallica, though, is seriously overrated. Personally I didn't even like Death Magnetic, which was supposedly an oldskool thrash metal album with roots in the old Metallica style.
Kirk isn't overrated as a guitar player. Though he is definitely overrated as a guitarist and a musician in general, seeing as I think I can safely say that 75+% of Metallica's riffs and solos were written by either James Hetfield or Dave Mustaine. Kirk just plays them in the recordings and at the concerts, which I think he does a great job at. But he always gets credited for the other guys' work, which annoys me. This isn't to say that Kirk is bad at writing his own stuff, what little bit of original material of his that I have heard before (i.e., " Creeping Death" riff right after the solo, "Enter Sandman" intro riff) is actually pretty good. I think if James would stop being such a control freak and let Kirk just write some more of his own stuff, Metallica would be a very different- (even better- I think) sounding band (since Kirk is a way better guitarist than James) with a lot more diversity and originality, compared to most other stuff written by the other guys which mostly sounds the same.
And I'm not saying Metallica is better overall than Megadeth. Because they're not. All I'm saying is that Metallica isn't overly overrated, that they truly are a great band with a lot of talent. Megadeth's music is far more technical and complex than anything Metallicas has ever done before, though, or will ever do in the future. So, in terms of sheer talent and musical excellence, Megadeth wins. But Metallica is (was, in the '80s) still a great band.

I have found that you have 2 forms of metal fans [true metal fans that is] Metallica fans, and Iron Maiden fans. I myself am an Iron Maiden fan, i do appreciate some metallica but i find most of their work to be boring, i much rather megadeth or annihilator.
I find metallica appeals more to the younger metal heads who go through a need to rebel at 14yo, while iron maiden is more of a life long metal head process.

I hate current Metallica. I started disliking them when St. Anger, or whatever, came out. I like Load and Reload, which most people hate, but I love Ride The Lightning.

I don't hate Metallica, they can do whatever they want, but I'm quite bored and tired of their more recent Alt-Rock pursuits.
To me, Death Magnetic is better than St. Anger or either of the Load Albums, but it's still not up to par with those first four albums. I loved Kill through Justice, and the Black Album was pretty good in some parts. I feel load was really when they began to lose grip with their original fanbase. I figure they just wanted to move on to something else.
I don't really fret Metallica's change much, There's tons of metal bands out there that I like that still put out stuff I like.

Metallica redeemed themselves with death Magnetic, though old fans still wonder --- did they get heavy again because they realized that is what the fans want and like?, or because Metallica knew their career was dying by doing whatever they felt like doing, and lot of it was not good since AJFA

Metallica's first 5 albums were awesome but it does seem as certain personnel changes happened they went downhill. The one person who should've left or been fired was certainly Lars, at least imo.
