According to sources close to the band, SAMMY HAGAR and the rest of VAN HALEN are currently locked away in a California studio. No word on whether they are recording a couple of tracks for the much talked about Best Of Vol. II or a full studio record. Insiders say that the band will use the Sammy Hagar pre-Super Bowl show to make the announcement of a reunion (thus ensuring international press coverage). Meanwhile, VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony has posted the following post-NAMM comments at his website: "Michael's brand-new Jack Daniel's bass made it's debut at this year's NAMM convention in Anaheim, CA. Fans in line to meet the mighty bassist at the Yamaha booth had the chance to get a look at it up close and personal while posing for pictures, getting autographs and throwin' out the questions! We're currently sorting through the bash of pictures, so stay tuned for photos! Speaking of the Jack Daniel's bass, due to some last minute technical difficulties, it's debut here at Mad Anthony's Cafe had to be delayed. VAN HALEN LIVE ON STAGE IN 2004?

News seems to be leaking about Van Halen and a possible US tour this year. Well folks, it is being looked at/planned. But the size and length of the tour is very much to be determined.
It's quite possible the selected live dates will be stand alone - in other words, the band will not be supporting a new release with the tour. As plans currently seem to stand, a Best Of Volume 2 is due later in the year - possibly September, with an all new studio album to follow that - should be the band (Sammy Hagar, Eddie & Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony) all prove they can still work together and get along.
The Best Of will feature new tracks, which are currently being worked on. There remains several issues to resolve and sort out. More updates shortly. And for the record - I'm told there won't be a Van Halen appearance at the Superbowl.
But - proof of activity can be shown! A search has been underway for an opening act and I can prove that as I spoke with the lead singer of one band that were offered the slot! They have not yet accepted the offer, fearing the planned tour may not go the distance.

I love VH and hope they can work things out but this is funny! Their situation with Sam and Dave has been like trying to go back with ex girlfriends on a trial basis and nobody wants a part of it outside of the band. Problem is that if they keep worrying about baby steps, they will be 70 by the time we get the next real album out of them. I say they should dive in head first and it either takes or it doesn't. If not, hang it up and if so then roll with the next stage of their career.

I agree with Eric - just go balls to the wall (not the Accept song) and see what happens. If it doesn't work out, I'm sure the sun will still come up tomorrow.
