Our band, REDSHIFT got to open for guitar legend,
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush last night.

We sure had a blast. We got to talk to Frank, when we loaded in. He gave me some pointers on recording, and talked SG necks with Gary. He played a flawless 3.5 hour set. My favorite jam, being Poppy. There was an intangible bond between his fans, who traveled from California, Vegas, Colorado, Louisville, and greater Chicagoland to see Frank play to a sold-out crowd. They had to turn away people at the door. The sound system was incredlble. Another fan, Argus57 from Frank Marino's Website had this perfect review of Frank's set list.
Quote:
The setlist was not a whole lot different than it has been for the last few years, he started out with Voodoo Child and really nailed it.Just like on Real Live he went into Somethings Comming Our Way. It set the tone for the whole night. The he did Dragonfly. I read where he did it in Wisconsin also. That was the first time I have heard it live in years.
The he went right into He's Calling, and it was as great as usual.
Red House was next, and it was another one that brought the house down.
The he went into the Poppy medly thing, also just like he did it on Real Live. The cool thing here though is that he dedicated it to our friend here at the website, the lovely Lori. I was right in front of the stage, and when he did that I looked over and saw Lori smiling. I had yet to meet her, but I knew it was her from the picture she posted, and by the ear to ear smile she had going on.
After Poppy, they did Stories of a Hero. Get the pattern here? This was certainly a show promoting the Real Live album. Which is cool since it is Frank's latest release.
Well now came the surprise that he gives you every show, they played Finish Line. I had asked a question to Frank a little while back asking for some stuff off of Whats Next. I'm not saying that is the reason he played it, but I was very happy that he did.It was awesome.
I am getting fuzzy on the order here but I think Strange Universe was next, followed by The Answer and then another one from Whats Next, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Then he did the Electronic Reflections of War jam, complete with The World Anthem.
Oh yeah there was also Avalon, with Tales of the Unexpected wedged in there. Just like on Real Live once again.
He closed the show with a fabulous version of Try for Freedom.
This concert was a full 3 1/2 hours. I timed it. Nobody gives their fans a longer and better show that Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush.
I have a few comments on the band here also. Peter Dowse and Dave Goode work so well together. They had a groove going during Poppy that was so cool. Peter is a great bass player, we all know that. He has been with Frank for a long long time. And I much prefer Dave to Josh on the drums. Josh has some talent, let there be know doubt about that. But Dave is such a pro. When you see Frank next lock in on Dave for a while. What a drummer.
And Avi was really good too. That violin adds a whole new dimmention to the Mahogany Rush sound. He played 3 solos if I remember right. Inclunding a little duel with Frank. He is also a fine rythum guitar player. He did not do any solo's on guitar like Mick used to do, he did his soloing on his violin.
All in all folks another big night for Frank and the guys, they tore the roof off the joint.
I'll be at Mr. Kelleys on Saturday (tonight actually). I can not wait to see the show again. I know there will be another variation as usual. Frank does stick to the Real Live set but he's also good for a surprise or two.
