Tim Sult of Clutch, Josh Homme, and Ken Andrews.
Everyone post early 90s sounds like they rip off Ken Andrews.

There are too many, in my book. But based on my taste, Gary Moore comes to mind as a well-balanced player with "to die for" tone.

Mick Mars was never really considered a guitar god/wonder.... but this guy has come up with some heavy guitar riffs that will be around forever.

Oh,,,and I thought Ralph Machio was pretty good in Crossroads...

That's because he's almost completely abandoned playing lead guitar.

Unsung Heroes--

Paul Gilbert was & is totally under-rated as well as Adrian Vandenberg with those Les Paul, string bending, expressionary skills--Snowy White in the Blues dept.Frank Marino live is on fire!! Jason Becker never quite crossed over into anything non-abstract & Michael Schenker lacked practically, any noticablity after his work with UFO.All these Guys did amazingly well in Japan-I guess the US is kind of -out of touch with fine,Guitar appreciation, since the Hair Bands got popularity. CC DeVille,Chris DeGarmo,Slash, Dave Mustaine,& even, the last 15 years of Hetfield & Hammett, lack what I need,to be inspired or even entertained.I recently had a metal-headed moron, try to argue that Mick Mars is one of the best axemen he has ever heard(I burned him about 65 minutes of the unsung masters to get his musical Ear-Q up to par).
I saved one of the most under-rated for last. This guy from Annihilator Jeff Waters -gotta check this out on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaunCLH8zhg . I have been looking for tabs on his most recent release "METAL" so I can rip-up some his swift-riffing technique. I have my work cut out for me,but If there is anything that I can do...I can do anything!

Thanks for all the leads(no pun) on some great, unsung guitarists, that I may have overlooked, mentioned in earlier posts here. You guys really know you're stuff.

Gonçalo Pereira an instrumental guitarrist from Portugal, there is also Jeff Watson, Jennifer Batten, Brad Gillis, and of course the Extreme guitarrist, Nuno Bettencourt. Back in the day, everybody thought nuno was God, the next Eddie Van Halen, but it seems people kinda forgot him, maybe because his most famous songs was More than words and Hole Hearted... But he is a sick guitar player, just check play with me, he man woman hater and get the funk out. There is Jake E. Lee from Ozzy Osbourne, watch some videos os him playing with ozzy at the bark at the moon tour (amazing) , Reb Beach (Winger was too pop and chessy but he is a wonderful guitar player), Paul Gilbert is a MONSTER PLAYER (kind of underrated,I guess/hopefully this G3 with Satch and Petrucci will change that ), also Jason Becker ( just check Altitudes, amazing playing and songwriting), Jerry Cantrell is a very good player (AIC ROCKS), Vito Brata was a very good player I just don't like White lion :P. There is plenty of good players that are unfortunately underrated, you guys already told them , I guess the problem is that we don't have guitar music anymore, and people just remember that kind of Rock FM (too radio friendly) like Guns, Metallica (Black album, load and reload era) . So, guys like Slash, Hammet, Hetfield and Santana get some recognition...! By the way I'm new here, I'm a Guitar player from Portugal

Without a shadow of doubt Rory Gallagher is the most under rated guitarist EVER!

In my opinion he was superior to Clapton (not saying he is a poor guitarist) but never got the aclaim he deserved.

Phil Keaggy is the most underated guitarist hands down. He was so ahead of his time that it is disturbing. I strongly suggest to every player that reads this to search for Glass Harp on youtube. You will see what I mean. Or just search for Phil Keaggy I guess.
