George Bellas. I like his way of doing all the shreddy stuff. He doesn't use a lot of distortion (check out the video 'Improvisation' on his website and you'll know what I'm talking about) which makes his sound pretty unique in a field where lots of guitarists sound the same. He also has an interesting approach to composition that I also like.

Alexi Laiho. Very technical indeed, probably not everyones cup of tea, but I think he has an interesting approach to soloing that anyone could benefit from investigating.

Mattias Eklundh. Again, interesting approaches to composition and soloing. Noone sounds quite like him.

I know. It all ends up in shred for me, that's just where I get my kicks!

Also, anyone heard of a guy named James Blood Ulmer? I haven't heard a lot by him, but judging by the stuff I've heard, it sounds like he was pretty much the first to introduce atonality to guitar playing.
I totally agree George Bellas is my guitar teacher and not only is he an incredible guitar player his dedication and passion for teaching are on the same level, he is an awesome teacher. He is such a cool guy, and never makes you feel like you suck, very inspiring to learn from him.

Mattias Eklundh is amazing too such great songs and solos to match I think I listen to Freak Kitchen more then anything else these days.

Someone I would like to add is Ron Thal, he's so adventurous in everything he does and he can shred with the best of them. He also gets alot of bonus points for the 9/11 cd in which he donated all the profits of the cd to the world trade centers surviving family members.

Alex Skolnick (Testament & solo)

By far the greatest and most tastefull of Joe Satriani's students. If you haven't heard him then you must check him out. I suggest The Legacy or Return to Serinity (both testament songs). He's awsome and definetly my biggest influence.

I would have to say Dave Meniketti from Y&T.Being from S.F.,I have had the pleasure of seeing Y&T live many times and the guy is always rock solid.Add to that, he is a rare breed,in the respect that besides being their lead guitarist,he's also their lead vocalist as well.A lot of people don't know this, but he was offered the Ozzy gig when Brad Gillis left to go back to Night Ranger, but he turned it down to stay with Y&T.That says something about his ability right there.

Glad I have a soulmate around here! -I've been thinking about purchasing some of his instructional cd-roms myself or maybe the whole bunch at some time...

Neal Schon is deff the most under rated player of all time
Eric Johnson
Steve Lukather
Zakk Wylde
Tom Scholtz
Brian May

these guys just kinda get lost in the shuffle...and always get put down cuz of the guys that choose to rely on speed and technical stuff...but these guys can be just as technical and fast but choose to play with feeling instead...and when they finally do rip its more magical bcuz thats not all they do..(minus zakk wylde...his stuffs technical but hes very under rated still)

I dont have much time b/c i gotta go somewhere but in my opinion Robbin Crosby was very underrated when he was alive.. He got kinda lost when Warren Demartinni replaced him as lead although Robbin was/is very popular with fans, I dont think he got the credit he deserved. He was an amazing guitarist
