Music Genres that NEED to die ...............?

ill give you two absolute corkers

NU Metal ..........sorry , goatee beards with their drop tuning, not a solo in site, little talent, crap songs and a dude with a hat scratching records on a mixer in the background .................ITS GOT TO DIE.........and soon

Jazz Funk : ive heard guitar wizard lee ritenour put out some of the most astonishing guitar ive ever heard, ive also hear some of the shittiest a la jazz funk, that ra-cha cha finger clicking pap that goes in one earole and straight out the other............usually found in elevators and shopping malls.........its got to die.

any others you can think of and do you agree with my 2 choices for quick extinction ?

Re: Music Genres that NEED to die ...............?

Hmm, I rather think there is lots of talent in Nu-Metal, nice rhythms. However, you needn't worry, it will die soon. (actually if my theory is correct music as a popular means of entertainment will die sometime within the next 30 years) but I digress, yeah nu-metal is likely on its way out.

Rap will be the cockroach of musical evolution I believe. Rap is weird and makes no sense as a genre. As a popular art form it really hasn't changed at all since the days of Grandmaster Flash, the production has gotten slicker but no substantial changes in it have developed (well the closest I think the rap genre came to redefining itself was with "gangster rap" but even this wasnt much of a change) The public should have gotten bored with rap about 13 years ago. Yet, it persists. I really can't explain this except for maybe the fact that rap didn't really become BIG until the early 90's, but even then, most genres enjoy only 5-6 years or so in the spotlight and then people become bored. Yet rap lives on. Like this bizarre cancer swallowing the music industry.

Can anyone rap fans out there explain why rap is so damn potent?

Re: Music Genres that NEED to die ...............?

don't wanna get my ass kicked for this ..

but maybe rap is sort of like guitar for the new generation guitar was a huge instrument from 60's even 50's on and still is i guess , people think it's cool to play guitar ,

if you think of rap like someones voice being an instrument people love it it's not so much the music but the *instrument* of someones voice . and i'd say rap has changed a fair bit and there are different genres of rap

i hope that made sense again never been a fan of rap myself i quite dislike it but i can understand why it's still so popular .

Re: Music Genres that NEED to die ...............?

Hmm I have another thought about the perseverence of rap. From an economical standpoint, rap is much cheaper to produce than other forms of music. Instead of outfitting a studio with mics everywhere and doing 50 gazillion takes of a song trying to get the instruments perfect, 1 man and his snythesizer can do it perfectly on the first try. Also, this may result in a reduction of royalties to be paid to the ahem "artists" so the production studio can make even more money.

Given that it is more economically efficient to produce rap, the question then becomes; can production studios in alliance with distributors influence public demand for a product by saturating the market with it? Based upon the short lived success of new wave (which has essentially the same production set up as does rap); id say no, the public creates the demand independtly of the production studios.

SO I guess this really solves nothing...

All I have to say is:

http://www.payableondeath.com/news/index.php

The guitar on this track which loads as a background sound, had me scraping my jaw up off of the ground.... and I'm not easily impressed

You know, I could probably live better and longer without ever hearing one of these "guitar and drums only" bands ever again ...the singing alone just gets to me, not to mention the cruddy guitar sound.

Re: Music Genres that NEED to die ...............?

uhhh...I only have 2 types of music; good and bad. I happily admit to hating rap but loving Eminem because he;s fuckin' clever and witty. I think Linkin Parks' Numb is superb and I'm lovin' Outkast' stuff. However, if I hear another lyric relating to a 'freak in the bed', lexus, homies, rolls royces, cristal champagne etc, I'll barf. I'm not racist, defeatist or rock-ist BUT I AM sick of shallow, easy-money, cop-out tunes that have been done YESTERDAY in the studio next door by the guys who are now featuring on the track by the guy from the studio next door! Here's a tip...WORK HARD AND DO YOUR OWN FUCKING THING! Rant over...please move away...there's nothing to see here! INTEGRITY means you wrote it from the heart and not the wallet!

Re: Music Genres that NEED to die ...............?

I think rap can be quite tasty to listen to. However, I'm going for the Eminem route as well. As Stiglar said as an example, their voice is an instrument.

In Eminem's case, he uses his voice and his words very well in my opinion. The way he gets them to roll off and the rhythm of the lyrics and the rhyme are pure genius in many cases. Just listen to some of the lyrics from, "Without Me".

Also, I think that with each album, the tunes to the songs have got more listenable, and better produced.

However, I am sick of all the gangster rap r 'n' b stuff you get on MTV. There's the odd jems, but none are as good as Eminem as far as I am concerned.

Just try to sing along to some of Eminem's lyrics. In lots of cases, it's as difficult as duplicating someone's guitar solo.

Anyway, that's all I have to say, but it certainly does fall under the umbrella of good and bad. Some stuff's good, some stuff's bad. The beauty is having the open mind to listen to all ranges and pick out the diamonds and throw away the coal !!!
