Operation Mindcrime 1 and 2

Just wanted to put out a recommendation that if anyone gets a chance to go see this show....definatly go. I went to the show just this past Friday night, at the House of Blues in Orlando, and it was great. Unfortunatly I had an early golf tournament Sat. morning. Teeing off with a hangover is never fun, but after a bit of the hair of the dog, I was fine.
It was the first stop on the US tour. Michael Wilton did a good job taking over for Degarmo on lead duties for Mindcrime 1, and the new guy Mike Stone was lead during Mindcrime 2. Overall Sound was good (not great, Ive been to that venue many times at other shows that sounded killer). The theatrics were awesome though, the guys kept you riveted. It was a packed house, and seemed everybody was really into it.
I've never been to a QR show before, and was a little dissapointed goin in, that I wasn't going to be able to see Chris Degarmo perform. Overall, definatly worth the $38 dollar ticket price and the hangover.

funny story....at the intermission, during set change, between 1 and 2. I wore my Ibanez t-shirt to the show, and this really drunk chick (but very hot) mistakenly pegged me as a player. She walked up to me and and slurred "this is a shot in the dark, but Michael Bolton is having a guitar clinic tomorrow, do you know anything about it?" I said, "Michael Bolton?!!?" She looked at me with total disgust and said "F'in Michael Bolton?, F, he's a F'in fag, F, he don;t play F'in guitar, F, Michael F'in Bolton. Nooooooo, Michael Wilton!" (I was laughing pretty hard by this point) I said "ooooooooh...sorry, no." She gave me the "your a loser" smirk and tried to stumble off. Unfortunatly she must have forgot we were standing on a very large (not tall, but wide) set of steps. Well, she fell on her face. Didn't faze her one bit though. I helped her up, she looked at me, smiled and said "thanks Bolton lover" and stumbled off into the crowd. ...aaaaaaaah...drunk metal chicks...gotta love'em

Sounds like you had a great time!! I love Queensryche and Operation Mindcrime was my favorite that they put out. Not very impressed by Mindcrime II. I think Chris DeGarmo was the musical backbone of the band. Michael Wilton is good, but Chris made the band for me. I wish he would have rejoined before they wrote Mindcrime II, it probably would have been better.

I saw them open for Judas Priest last summer and they actually only played one old song (Empire). Everything else was from their newer albums. I was a little disappointed that they didn't play any older stuff, but I really liked their new stuff.

You sure about that? Courtesy of www.breakdownroom.net, here is a sample setlist of the 05 tour with Priest. They really focused on their older, more "metal" songs:

The Whisper
En Force
Neue Regel
NM 156
Screaming in Digital
Open
Desert Dance
EP Medley (Queen of the Reich/Nightrider/Blinded)
Walk in the Shadows
The Needle Lies
I'm American
Surgical Strike
Empire
Take Hold of the Flame

By my count, that's mostly songs from the EP/Warning/Rage for Order - unless you consider those to be new albums, I doubt you actually saw them play. The only post-1990 songs are Open and Desert Dance from Tribe, and I'm American from MCII.

As for the original poster, Wilton and Stone trade off lead duties through the entire show. Whip manages a lot of the MCI leads, but they're equal on MCII. Just saw the show last night (Friday).

Also, the idea that MCII would have been better with Degarmo, just remember that he wrote the majority of HITNF, and he is still heavily into grunge. Just because he's the original guitarist doesn't mean he wants to write music like the older albums anymore. Chris is not in the same headspace that he was in 20 years ago.

They did come back for a quick, two-song encore. They've been rotating a few songs for each night - I saw them do Walk in the Shadows and Take Hold.

Good point Rycher, I stand corrected. I forgot that DeGarmo slumped into...grunge...the most horrible "noise" known to man. That may have really warped his quality.

Operation:Mindcrime is one of my favourite albums of all time.Part II took a few listens.Shame about the mix up about Anthony Valentine as Dr.X.Didn`t think the vocals or guitars were as clear as they should be on Part.II.After a few listens, not too bad.
