Reformed Metallica fans does anyone agree

Let me start by saying that i am a huge fan of metallica the band but i can't stand Metallica the corporation. I love everything Metallica did and by this I mean every song on every album right up to Load. To me its at that point they became Metallica the corporation. They changed their music and image to follow (what was then) the current trend. In my opinion if you combined the best tunes from both of the "LOADS" you would be left with one mediocre EP.And then comes St. Anger i don't think anyone can say that this disc is not a blatant attempt to follow trends with its dropped tunings so low all the riffs sound like mud, and no solos. And the lyrics (which had began to decline on the "loads") fell to new lows. And does anyone like the snare sound on that disc? to me metallica is kill 'em all through the "black" album. I have little hope that any future recordings will be anything other than new attempts to follow the current trend. Hopefully Robert Trujillo can turn them around but i doubt it. does anyone else agree?

First off, I'm a huge fan of Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, ...And Justice For All (especially this album ), and parts of the Black album. I don't much care for any of their other albums, but damn, 4 killer albums is ok in my book.

But as for the question of whether Metallica has become a "corporation", I don't know. I guess I just don't have enough evidence to say one way or the other whether Metallica has "sold out". Without knowing Metallica's mindset, its hard for me to know whether they are just following the trend or have simply run out of creative energy after 25 years (not too many bands still churn out awesome awesome albums after that long...)

And, for the record, I fully back Metallica's battle against illegal pirating of their music. Personally, I find the idea of copyright protection both insulting and degrading to me as a musican, however, if society sees fit to give musicians economic rights in their music, then they have my full blessing to enforce those rights.

That said, dear god, I seriously hope their future recordings aren't an attempt to "follow the trend". Lol, I'd hate to hear a pop-punk Metallica album (although it would no doubt beat the **** out of Greenday) (Actually, am I the only one that finds it ironic that the popularity of metal has been brought down by the same agressive genre which itself had replaced (punk?))

I love Metallica's album's Kill'em to Black, Load and ReLoad were OK. I didn't even give St. Anger the time of day. I think that they are just experimenting with different sounds and doing whatever they feel like. I think they have earned the right. I however don't have to buy it if I don't like it, but I will continue to enjoy the older stuff. If something new that they do sounds good I'll buy, if not I won't.

Love the early Metallica albums but after Justice I became turned off to them. St. Anger was garbage and killed them. Bob Rock destroyed them musically :fu: and between Lars' anti-downloading lawsuits and their corporate style of mis-management, the fans have become fed up with the whole thing.

I'm disappointed with them mostly because of their declining quality music. The most recent studio "effort" (if we can call it that) was certainly a sign that these guys burned out creatively. I don't think you can blame Bob Rock anymore than the two tyrants who call the shots. Let's face it, Lars and James run the show and should take as much or even more of the blame. I think they should fold, and call it a day.

I dunno, Bob's the producer so he has the creative reigns. If you watch the documentaries, Bob tells the guys what to play and how to sing, etc. It was Bob's idea to go with the raw guitar sound, no solos and "trash can lid" drum sound on St. Anger.

i went one more than you. i really liked the black album (much improved vocals). i wish they would retire the name though, instead of tarnishing it further with crappy releases.

I think they went a little too far with the whole "pre-Metallica" on the St. Anger album...Other than that, I'm a huge tallica fan.
