I'm amazed at how Michael Anthony is viewed by the other band members.
Granted MA is no Geddy Lee, but he is solid enough for VH tunes and his voice
makes VH backing vocals what they are. Without his voice Van Halen tunes (especially from the Roth era) just don't sound right.
Go to the Atomic Punks site and listen to a couple of thier clips. That singer nails
roth and Russ Parish does a good Eddie, but the songs just don't sound quite right without Mikeys vocals.
There is actually a clip on there where Mike joins them on stage and THEN the song sounds like the real VH.

The name of that book was "Red Storm Rising". The reason that nobody can find it (this was on another thread too) is that Sammy was unhappy with the outcome of the book, and had it pulled. I believe there was some litigation involved in this as well.

Wow, I have been glued to my computer for about 3 hours straight reading this. Very interesting stuff. I wonder what happened to chapters 1-18? I can see how 19 & 20 are controversial, but I am guessing 1-18 described some good times and some wild stuff. If Sammy wanted to edit the book and just publish certain parts it would still be a great read. Would love to read about the early Sammy solo days and the early VH good times (5150).

Stayed up until 3 am reading this only because it gives some interesting insight into the clash between the creativity involved in the rock music business and the "business" end. I don't think anyone looks rosy in this story, which is why I'm sure that Sammy wouldn't want this widely disseminated. Is it true that he kept Betsy's mother's silverware? If so, that was an extremely hurtful and petty thing to do. He took advantage of her continuing love for him and bilked her out of her rightful divorce proceedings. And I am not one who always sticks up for the woman in a divorce. Plenty of women deserve the abuse they get. Sorry. Do I still love Sammy too? Yes, because he was a product of his profession and could have ended up far worse off than he is now. He was probably young, naive and dumb too at one time, but the things he does now for charity and his fans probably do redeem him. I hope that Betsy has moved on to greater things for herself. Being in that position as a dependent wife is something I cannot relate to, but it worked for her for 23 years. How very sad, when one person can so easily discard all that for a younger, prettier face. I hope that Kari is really worth it. She seems rather empty-headed to me, but smart enough to keep Sam on a very short leash. After all, she is no spring chicken anymore either and there are probably tons of younger women that would throw themselves at Sammy even at 60!

Actually, I would like to either see or write a book myself on the last 10 years of Sam's life. I think that what he does now is far more interesting than what he did with Van Halen. He's taken his fame and fortune and become both an astute businessman and philanthropist. Hat's off to rockers growing up and doing the right thing!

The only one who comes out smelling like a rose is Michael Anthony! The brothers did jerk Sam and Dave around during the whole re-union thing no doubt. I always took Sam's side with that whole ordeal, still do actually. I never knew Sam was such an ass to his ex-wife though. What a bastard! Either way, I still enjoy all the music despite the major ego problems with all of them.
