Shadows Fall
I found out about Shadows Fall reading a feature in Guitar World.
These kids have dual guitar attacks that are reminscent of old Metallica and Priest.
Don't call them Nu-Metal , becuz they ain't, and they are proud to call themselves a Metal band.
They pay homage to Metallica and Megadeth and Pantera (you will hear the influences here and there) but they are not old geezers. They are young, hungry and angry. I totally endorse these guys.
One of their influences is also Zakk Wylde. One of the guitar players uses Wylde licks on and off, and the general products has HUGE balls!
NOTE: They play a SLOOOOW and HEAVY cover of Pink Floyd's “Welcome to the Machine“ that is absolutely face-melting. I bet Gilmour himself would be honored to hear it!
I highly recommend putting this music after you endured Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, Jewel and Natalie Umbru(what's her name again?) during a seven-hour road trip with your girlfriend, wife, or significant other.
Shout if you know these kids!

Re: Shadows Fall
I totally agree. I have the Art of Balance and was listening to it this weekend. They definitely have the two pronged attack a lot like Maiden too. The lead player (I think Jonathon Donais) plays a lot like ZAKK. He employs a lot of cool Zakk false harmonic squeels. I totally recommend also. I am not in love with the singing. But, I know that is popular today.
By the way, nice playing on the Super Jam. Your spot sounded great.

Re: Shadows Fall
Same here about the singing, but there's plenty of great guitar work to make me happy.
They have great, dark and doomy ballads too, plus some of the lyrics are more melodic than others...

Re: Shadows Fall
I think they deserve a fair share of success in todays metal scene.
If you like classic thrash and what Zakk Wylde is doing now, chances are you will like Shadows Fall.

your right. But I got into Shadows Fall before Zakk Wylde....Not Priest though, I've been into Priest for too long to count. But Shadows Fall is really under-rated for what they've become and what they've always been. Even when Phil Labonte (All That Remains) was on vocals they always stuck out to me...They are the new Metallica to me, and I think they are one of the few to carry on metal to the new decades to come. They will front the genre alongside Children of Bodom, Trivium, Lamb of God, Arch Enemy, Mastodon, Bullet for My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, etc. I choose these bands because, to me, they are the most revolutionary in this day and age to metal. I can see these bands remaining in the future along with some unotable mentions...

I think there are a lot of new metalcore bands which are quite impressive. Amongst those who have guitar prowess to me are All That Remains, Shadows Fall and Trivium. In their last album (not the latest), they do remind me a bit of Megadeth cos both can play their guitars but their latest album sucks (to me). Killswitch Engage is also not bad but no solos which is a dissappointment cos I believe they can do better...

Shadows Fall kills ..been listening to them for a few years..their latest release is down right epic! ....side note..I think Trivium's last is killer too.

I saw Shadows Sunday on SOTU. Great live. A little too loud/distorted, but they sound crew was off all day, so I blame them more than the band.
Seeing them live is a different beast. They were playing a good bit faster than the album. It was quite impressive. I've been listening for a couple years and have liked them since I herd them. I dunno if they are the new Metallica or not, but they are deffinantly a few of the best guys in the genere today. Lot's of respect for what they are doing.

I don't know either about being a new Metallica, but hell these guys are awesome!! Been into them for about 3 years now and own about 4 albums. They're amazing!!
The Art of Balance has got to be my favourite album, but all the others I have are just killer!! I love they're cover of "Teasin', Pleasin'" too, that song f***in' ROCKS!!
