Sonata Arctica Videos
Feast your eyes and your ears on one of the best damn power metal bands ever. These young guns from Finland are incapable of producing bad music (if you're into this style). Give it a listen and a look, even if you don't think you'll like and feel the power, the musicianship.
I play their albums while at the gym. You should see me hit that stairmaster at 160 bpm, tring to catch up to the double kick drums!

There doesn't seem to be too much new things that I like, but these guys I like (from the short bit I have seen). I can understand the singing, it's not all gutteral screaming, and it's got a melody. Good stuff.

These guys are all about harmony and great compositions. I really like what they do. It's metal, but with a pretty different slant and very upbeat melodies; it's a nice change from the doom and gloom of other bands I listen to, like Arch Enemy and Shadows Fall...
Thank you for listening, Rythameen.

Thanks, however I just can't get into the synth and keyboards. Its not heavy and raw enough for me. The guitar tones didn't grab me at all. Good singer though. Give me some old Judas Priest like Freewheel Burnin'! To me old and "new" Priest blows these guys away 100 times over. Maiden too.

I have all their albums and they sound absolutely huge. The production is impressive. But if you're looking for Priest, this ain't it.
Thanks for checking them out though...

Yep, I'll try out anything new but to teach this old dog new tricks, the new tricks have to be alot like the old ones. I'm weird that way.

I saw those guys warm up for Rhapsody and Stratovarius at a show 4 or 5 years ago and they just SUCKED. The lead singer sounded awful and very pretentious about his performance.
That said, man have they improved (or my tastes have changed, hard to say)!! The song in the video ROCKS and the singer sounds awesome! I'm gonna get my hands on of their albums as fast as I can, any suggestions CC? What's your favorite album by them? -Oh, and they don't do too many ballads, do they...?
Btw Stratovarius sucked even worse. Rhapsody was the only band that rocked that night which made it all worthwhile!!

I don't care for Stratovarius, but I have never bought any of their stuff, so I should shut up.
As for S.A., I warmly recommend Silence, Winterheart Guild, and above all Reckoning Night, the newest.
They play amazingly beautiful ballads when it's time for the poor drummer to take a break. So it's not always 200 mph runs for 50 minutes. (I think that at that rate he'll die very young! )
Also do a search in video.google.com for their song Wolf and Raven. It kicks ass and is completely insane to play...
Anyway, I recommend their ballads if ou want to jam to the aolian mode. They are great for that.

Thanks for recommending, I'll see if I can get my hands on "Reckoning Night" any time soon!

Sonata-Arctica - Acoustic-Live-in-Tokyo
Well just found this post and figured i'd share something that really shows off Tony's voice. This was recorded before they recorded their For The Sake Of Revenge dvd.
